Fruit trees reliable in containers / pots?

Hello! Does anyone have recommendations on fruit trees that are reliable and long lived that can be kept in a container or pot (even if very large) for its entire life without a decline? My service animal passed away suddenly a few weeks ago and I wanted to have her ashes in a pot with a fruit tree if possible - the idea of life continuing on in a way feels comforting to me. I would def want a tree that can stay in that pot and remain healthy, disease resistant etc. so there isn't a big risk of losing the plant. I'm in Southern California, zone 10!

I've had citrus trees in containers for like a decade now and going strong. 

Most trees can be grown in containers but I can't speak to their longevity as I have only started with non-citrus trees more recently

I'm so sorry to hear about your service animal. That can feel like losing part of your own body.
A couple of thoughts -
1. I would go with something pretty, bushy, and easy to manage, such as gin berry (glycosmis pentaphylla). Unusual, beautiful, takes well to pruning, does great in a pot and grows well from seed. I have them coming up all over my greenhouse just from eating the berries and spitting the seeds out on the floor.
2. Remember, even if a plant fails, her ashes are still in the potting soil, ready to give nutrtion to whatever else you plant in there.

If you want some gin berry seeds to start, I have tons! Just let me know and I can mail you some when I get home on the 26th.
