US 942 hardiness in North NJ

(1/1)

vnomonee:
I have a rooted cutting of US942 which is already showing dieback from a low of 15f, there is bleaching on the upper growth. The lower stems are looking ok so far, hopefully the damage is related to young growth. I plan to graft it on trifoliate right next to it (planted in the same hole) via approach graft if it makes it past the winter.

poncirsguy:
I used an approach graft to replace a meiwa kumquat tree could be moved of its Kuharske citrange roots onto Flying dragon

vnomonee:
I saw that you did that! I've done an outdoor one already on my original Prague Chimera which was grafted to flying dragon and barely grows, so did the approach using standard poncirus this past summer and it took. It technically has 2 rootstocks at the moment which I will need to cut the FD in the coming season.

Mulberry0126:
Same story here with some of our specimens after 15F! Others are completely unharmed. The ones with tip burn and bleaching/die-back pushed our another flush one month before the deep freezes which was not nearly enough time to harden off. The ones that realized Winter was coming look great! They are some of my larger specimens and have some good thickness, but even small branches look fine.
I do still suspect it's a little less hardy than some other Citrandarins, but time will tell as they grow under the same conditions.
