Early Cold Hardy Hybrids

(1/1)

cascadiacitrus:
I’ve been digging through old USDA documents, research papers, and The Hardy Citrus of Texas – from the notes of John R. Brown, M.D., which I know many of you are familiar with. My goal has been to put together a more complete and accurate picture of some of the early cold-hardy citrus varieties that often get simplified or mixed together over time.

Some of the varieties I’ve been focusing on include:

- Ten Degree Tangerine (Clemyuzu 2-2)
- The original Clementine (Algerine tangerine)
- Willits Citrange (which later gave rise to Thomasville Citrangequat and Glen Citrangedin)
- Kunenbo mandarin (a key parent behind Kabosu, Keraji, and Bloomsweet grapefruit)

Along with a number of early rootstocks and lesser-known USDA hybrids.

I think I’ve managed to document a pretty solid historical picture of where these varieties came from, but I’d really like help strengthening the evidence — especially through images, videos, firsthand growing observations, and fruiting reports.

I’ve been putting everything together on a site I’m building called World of Citrus (https://worldofcitrus.com), and I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback, corrections, or contributions from growers who have hands-on experience with these varieties.

Thanks I appreciate it! I'll be reading The Citrus Industry Volume 1 as well to add more information to the current varieties, and of course adding more varieties.
