Top Tropicals just put up three new mango varieties for sale: Corn, Jean Ellen and Julliette. Any experience with these three? Worth collecting?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking for Angie Mango
« on: January 21, 2013, 05:32:56 PM »
I have been looking for the Angiea and Pina Colada mango tree for a long time with no success. Is it possible anybody could buy the trees locally in FL and ship them to me in CA?
I will pay for the trees and all expenses involved in getting them to me. I believe USPS prioroty mail is the best way to ship it.
Please please let me know if anyone is willing to help. I would really appreciate it.

I will take a pack of Rollina. I will also take some of your giant sugar apple seeds if possible. Thanks.

Hey Asaffron, do you have that giant Mexican tree for sale?
Floridagreenman, do you have that big red tree for sale?
I am in CA; and trying to collect some annona trees. Anybody can sell and ship sugar apples trees like those two above please let me know. I'd appreciate that.
Merry Christmas!

Does Charly has a nursery in Rowland Heights? May I have his address or contact information? I want to buy some of his trees. Your help is appreciated.

Awesome collection and great looking trees, Marklee!
I wish i had a open yard like yours and I can plant all my trees out! I am interested in some seeds of the surinam cherry and bud woods of the Pantinn Mammey and Lisa atemoya; is it possible to buy some from you? I am in Socal as well, Corona exactly. Thanks for sharing the inspring pictures.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: I Just ordered a Maha from Top Tr. today!

Like I said in the previous posts, the lady who I talked to at Top Tr. told me that there was a delay in receiving their shipment for the Maha Chanoks. Therefore, the order I placed on Dec. 3rd won't be shipped until the 17th.
I remember reading busbulie posting here that he knows the source of these Mahas where Top Tr. get them from. Does anybody know what is happening with Top Tr.'s Mahas?

Hey Zands, my wife will totally agrees with you on giving the best care to the ones I already have! She hates me keeping buying more trees. I agree too, but it seems I just can't stop. I think one of the reasons is that in California our mangos grow so slowly and when I don't see much growth i get bored. Buying new trees keeps me excited all the time. However, i think it is time for me to stop now because I am running out of space.
As for the mango rush hour, i have never expericned it yet since i just started this hobby two years ago; and 99% of my trees are container grown because my yard is already fully landscaped and no more space for fruit trees in the ground. Trees in container in CA don't grow fast and I don't think I will get any fruit probably for another three years. I am looking forward to the Mango Rush Hour though. I wish I could move to FL one day!

DT, i already have 23 different cultivars of mangos. Maha almost completes my collection. Wait a sec, i am still looking for Pina Colada and Angie. Angie is extemely to get now. Hopefully the additction to mango trees will stop!
Asaffron, i am glad and surprised Top Tr. is cooperative. I thoght they would be tough to work with; and that's also why I changed my order to two Mahas instead of just asking a price reduction. I figured they would probably do it since they make more money selling two trees.

Well, i called Top Tr. yesterday and told the lady on the phone that I was very upset to find out about thr price reduction, but I was not asking for a refund. What I asked for was to double my order to two Maha trees at the lowet price of $69.96 and I will pay for the difference. She agreed! So after after paying the difference, for the total of $196 including shipping, i will get two Mahas.
What is stange is that the lady told me there was delay for the shipment of Mahas to the nursery; therefore I won't get my trees until the 20th or 21st.
Well, i am happy with the new price and i will post tje pix when my trees arrive.

Omg, $20 price reduction only four days after my order!? How big a chance you folks think I can ask for the price difference back from Top Tr.?

Thanks to everyone following this post. The greatest thing about this forum is always about sharing the information.
Hey DT, that is a great looking tree; and it does looke like Maha to me. Although i still have never owned one, but I've researching about it for a long time. Hopefully the tree I am gonna receive soon will look as nice as yours.
Gary, i am glad too that Mahas are getting into CA at a "reasonable" price. I have not received my Maha yet, the tree in the picture is DT's. He bought it from Top Tr. too. My tree willosy likely arrivr next Thursday; and i will grow it in a pot. I will post pictures once I receive it. Can't wait!

OMG, DT,  it is heart brokening to hear I paid twice as you did.  >:(
Just kidding. It is all my fault, i should have checked the website out earlier, but I never expected Maha to be available in the first place.
Btw, DT, how long did it take you to receive the tree after you ordered? Thanks!

I was browsing Top Tropicals website last night and very surprisingly found Maha Chanok for sale finally after it has been shown as backordered on this webiste for years. I've never ordered from Top before and have heard many negative comments about them, but after much debating, I ordered one today and the total including shipping to CA is $128. It is cheaper than Plantogram whose price is around $155 after shipping.
I am keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully I will get the real Maha Chanok soon, not just some mislabeled mango tree. I will post a pix once I get the tree, and hopefully the mango gurus here could help me prove it's identity.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: How to root mulberries
« on: December 01, 2012, 08:26:43 PM »
Hey Treesnmore,
I have the Parkistan mulberry sold in most CA nurseries and they are all from one wholesale nursery in CA that I can't think of the name now.
I am interested in the Isons's Parkistan that is 4 inchs long. Do you think it is the same as the one commonly found in CA, or a different one?

Hey guys, I have a Parkistan mulberry in the ground. A couple friends have been asking for some cuttings from it. Any advice as to how to root mulberry cuttings will be greatly appreciated. Pictures or videos will be even better. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hey Jacob,
I'd appreciate it you could let me know when you will send me those cuttings. I sent you an email two days ago buy haven't heard back from you. Just thought you might see it here. I know you are busy, but I might be out of town again soon; therefore it will be great if I could receive the cuttings soon. Thank you very much!

The leaves look like from a atemoya, not a cherimoya.

Asaffron, may I reserve a couple plants too? I have reserved a grafted Ross Sapote with you last week. If you can ship them to me together whenever available, I'd appreciate that. Thanks a lot!

My Black Pearl has been in its 20" pot for a year since I bought it from Mimosa LA as a 7 gallon 18 months ago.It was declining during the first 6 months due to being root bound and really poor and old porting soil used by tr nursery, but coming back very nicely since I semi-barerooted it and repotted it into the "gritty mix". The fruits last year were pretty bland; I didn't let it fruit this year to bulk it up.

Hey Tim, the nursery is Hawaii Tropical Plants.
BMc, thanks a lot for the explanation. I really appreciate the information. I've been wondering what that Garcinia Sp. means for a while; now I know. Thanks again!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My Mail Order from Hawaii just Arrived Today!
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:12:55 AM »
Just received five trees from Hawaii today via FedEx 2nd day. Beautiful trees that arrived in perfect condition. Highly recommend this nursery for mail orders.

1. Garcinia Sp. (madrono del monte)

2. Garcinia magnifolia

3. Annona scleroderma (posh-te)

4. Rollinia Deliciosa (Biriba) #1

5. Rollinia Deliciosa (Biriba) #2

6. Bolivian mangosteen got from Montoso Garden about six months ago

The last picture (#6, the Bolivian Mangosteen) was marked as Garcinia Sp. by Montoso Garden, which is the same as the madrono del monte as in picture #1. This is confusing since these two are definitely two different  trees and their common names are different. How come their botanical names are both Garcinia Sp. Anybody has the answer?

Been there, done that. I have probably bought at least 80 trees this year so far. Believe me, you will keep buying until you run out of space. We are all plant hoarders.
By th way, my friend, where did you get your trees? The Atemoya and Big sister cherimoya are pretty interesting.
