Distilled alcohol from fruits
« on: March 30, 2020, 11:15:07 PM »
Does anibody makes distilled alcohool from fruits ?
I mean the excess fruits that doesnt get eaten and rot.
In the past 2 years i wage war on my alcohol making suporting family member and i made compost from the rotten fruits instead of moonshine.
Now he got his revenge because i had to buy a medicinal alcohool bottle wich was nowhere to be found on this corona virus chrisis and i ended up buying tough alcohool ,96 degrees.
The price i paid for it has shocked me,it costs 20 euro a litter here .I didnt expected to be this expensive.

Here you need a license. To do so without is a crime.

Here you can make as much as you wish but you cant sell it legally.
I was thinking : one kilo of table sugar costs 50 cents, through distillation => 1 litter of 70 degree booze wich is expensive as a sanitizer now a days= business.
But off course i wouldnt do business ,instead i would give it for cheap or almost for free to people that needs it for disinfection.
I felt really scammed with that 96 degree booze for 20 euros thogh .

In my opinion to make cheap alcohol as a sanitizer, sugar is the best option. You can also use any fruits with high sugar content and easy to collect. If you want to make anything for drinking its a differnt subject

Ive quit alcohool and ive started gardening to replace the putpose of making only alcohool from my land to a more diverse fruit farm with edible fruits ( fruit trees used for making alcohool are not that good tasting just sweetness and quantity matters).

The most intense part of switching my orchard from an alcohool production orchard to fruits and nuts for edible purpose was when i tryed to take the copper distillery and melt it because i needed copper to cast a statue.  ;D .

We ferment fruits and herbs, ginger, etc.  we drink the result as a cider.  I also make brandy by distilling the same stuff.  Mangoes can make a good brandy. There’s lots of stuff to experiment with and it can all be organic!

I found someone with a 10 gallon still and plan to do a banana brandy. Here they are making Waragi in a basic drum against a fire by a stream, it can be done very low-tech.

I've made infusions -- mango vodka -- putting mangos in with vodka for ~2-3 months and a barbados cherry liqour with sugar and combining/straining the boiled fruit mixed with alcohol so its around 40 proof

I was thinking of trying to do some Wine with Starfruit and potentially other things but not really at that production level yet as i have wind mitigation issues on the lot i have my starfruit on.

Distilling it would be cool, i bet banana brandy would be really interesting!

hey here was my latest infusion, a Jaboticaba Rum liqueur bottled this week. It turned out very nice a little stronger than wine and with a great color and slight tannin from the skin.

Jaboticaba liquour, banana and mango...all seem good.
I made liquour like that from jabuticaba but with Nitraria, the plant from my signature.
I added strong 50 grades booze made from plums or from grape vine that got bad ( i distill the bad vine and i also distill the remaining slurry after making vine) with sugar and a handfull of fruit in 2 litter booze bottle.
It was quite strong.
The 98 degree alcohool its used to mix it with fruits and to make liquours from it but damn, its soo expensive .

that looks great!

if you find yourself with spare barbados cherries, try covering a nice batch with water and a decent amount of sugar, simmer until the fruits drain of color and texture and then sieve into vodka once cooled. It's really unique and a great little after dinner liqour.
