I usually just use google search. You can type your search terms and then "site:tropicalfruitforum.com" to tell google to only search for results on this website

Can't say I contribute much knowledge to this great community but I definitely get a lot out of it. Thanks everyone and happy to pitch in to keep TFF ad free!

How did the rescue mission go?

I’ll update my guess to 1122

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Green Sapote best light/sun conditions?
« on: November 06, 2023, 11:13:29 PM »
I noticed my green sapote from Nate were doing pretty good in full sun during early summer but started getting deformed leaves and sun scorched in the middle of summer. I moved them into a partial shade spot and they’re looking great now.

I've learned that you can't count out lebron, the guy knows how to win in the playoffs. I am rooting for the nuggets though, love watching Jokic play.

The Heat are tough and they matchup really well against the Celtics. I'm expecting the series to go 7 games

8
i've been looking for green sapote for a minute, super glad to see you offer it and especially excited that it's from a nice fruit from Guatemala!

9
As a Celtics fan I'm cautiously skeptical but I gotta pick them. Who's your team sc4001992 (both prediction and fandom)?

I have a squirrelinator to handle my garden nemesis. The trap is a bit expensive now but they've worked really well for me. I've seen videos on youtube of DIY versions if you want to save a few bucks

Will do, one of them is a bit older and decent size already but I'll try to be patient if they aren't ready. Appreciate the advice

Nice, Brad! I was wondering how your grafts did with the cold winter we had.

I put some 1 year old seedlings in the ground, planning to graft them up in the coming year so this is helpful info

Kevin's a great seller, purchased one a little while ago and it's looking pristine!

Anyone know how Mark Albert's selections compare to some of the NZs selections?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mamey and Green Sapote review
« on: March 22, 2023, 08:36:55 PM »
Thanks for the review, Janet.

I also tried the Lorrito mamey from lara farms and I thought it was okay but not worth trying to grow myself. It didn't help that my wife didn't particularly like it so I was left with a lot of fruit to consume by myself. I thought the texture was more silky and pudding like compared to a sweet potato that I'd consider more fibrous, which was one of the things I did enjoy about the fruit.

I've been wanting to try green sapote for some time and I almost ordered some from Lara Farms but I didn't due to travel plans. I'm intrigued by your description of dried persimmon as I love hoshigaki! Your description has increased my need to acquire some fruit in the future. Are you planning on growing out the green sapote seeds?

RevivalR00ts - pick up in San Diego, near mission valley.

James - thanks, I may take you up on that, I was being lazy and just wanted to get a grafted plant. The bernecker is supposedly a superior cultivar, I’ve yet to try the fruit though. I’m thinking about ordering some fruit to verify myself, I just need to get over the hefty shipping cost lol. I guess it beats nurturing a plant for years only to find out you don’t like the fruit. I’ll let you know if I end up ordering, it’s 5lb of black sapote so plenty to share.

Got a few messages to ship the avocado. I’m traveling back home tomorrow so I’ll give it another couple days to see if there’s any interest for local pickup and if there isn’t, I’ll do a random drawing to pick the winner to ship it out to.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Bernecker Avocado FREE

I recently bought a bernecker black sapote from Lara farms but it turns out there was an error and it was actually only the avocado that was in stock so I now have a bernecker avocado that I don’t need. I’m in SD and local pickup is preferred but I think it’s a West Indian variety so I’m guessing it’d be more appealing to our members in Florida so I could be down to try and ship it if you want to cover shipping costs (I’ve never shipped before so I’m not sure about regulations but I did keep the original box)

Great video, thanks for sharing Brad! I didn’t think it was too long I enjoy these sort of instructional videos to be a bit longer to see the full process

Do you still have fruits available? I’ve been wanting to try this variety before purchasing a tree. I can do local pickup this weekend if you and the fruits are available!

Thanks for the info, Brad. Have you had issues with fire blight on any of your Asian pears? I may need to find some space to put a couple pears in the ground. I loved the fruit growing up but it’s been a bit of an after thought until now.

Greg, thanks for the heads up on this post. I ended up going to Marukai and picked up a couple of these pears. Very excited to try these.

22
Greg are you growing asian pears?  They can be grown in CA, we grow Hosui and the fruit are super good.  My kids go crazy for these fruits.

Brad, do you have a pollenizer for the Hosui?

I forget what thread it was but I recall an older thread where Har, who is super knowledgable about Annonas, said that soursops are sensitive to cold winds. They can handle freezing temps with wind protection but will defoliate in low 40s with wind.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: White Sapote Questions
« on: September 23, 2022, 01:40:16 PM »
You're getting a bunch of good replies re: white sapotes so I'll just add that you should totally jump on the paw paw train along with growing white sapote. I lived in Baltimore/DC for 10 years and I really enjoyed them. Since it's native to the region you can mostly plant it and forget about it and in a few years you'll have delicious fruit without much work!
