Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Jaboticaba 45 ACT giveaway conclusion
« on: September 10, 2022, 09:59:14 PM »
Hey forum,
If you don't remember the GGG from last April, well fear no more.
I just took the ACT friday and decided to do a large giveaway. I don't know my score yet, so I thought could be cool to do a guess my score, win cool prizes.

Here's how to participate.
1. guess each score for each section (english, math, reading, science)
2. Each score goes on a scale from 1-36. 1 being the lowest, 36 being the highest
3. The winners will be announced once I get my score back

PRIZES
So here's how the prize giveaway works. It's free. If you win, you pay me nothing
there will be 3 people who win.
1st place to the person who guesses the closest
2nd place
3rd place
To see who won, I'll see which scores were the closest by subracting the guessed score to the actual score using absolute value. Whoever has the least number wins.
Here's what I am giving away
Each winner can take one plant

Dona gal jaboticaba
Annona salizmanii
Eugenia pyriformis var. gigante
Eugenia multicostata octocostata
grafted scarlet scion from fruiting tree :-*
and if you guess my score score for score, I'll give you a plinia rara plant! Yep, I got my hands on 1 extra I can give away.

Here's an example
you guess:
English 26
Math 30
Reading 24
Science 21

The actual score was *
26 English
28 Math
22 Reading
18 Science
So you were 7 points off my total score

If two people are tied in points I'll do a spinner to determine who wins on the band app.
Maybe I'll even livestream this on the band app
Shoutout to GiantGecko for the idea of using band!

Whoever is the least off my total score will win. If you guessed 26 English, 30 Math, Reading 24, and Science 18 and that was my exact score for the test, That's when you win the plinia rara. To win that, you must guess each score correctly.

Here's a hint:
I'm above the 75 percentile last test I took (April 2022). If you do digging, the GGG should have more info ;D  on last test I did (my last test score, hint, hint). But you gotta find that thread, not me.

*not my actual score lol

I hope this is something fun everyone can enjoy. You have around 2 weeks to post your guess. Once I get my score, no more guessing. This is a low risk high reward situation for everyone so I hope you have fun!
-Ryan

Well many people on here know the legendary member SeaWalnut. A man living in Romania, and an epic grower. He had a large collection of tropical fruit trees too. Because of his large influence on the tropical area of the forum and the fact that these originated in a tropical climate, I know it's fine to post here. Unfortunately, he got canceled for lack of better wording and stopped posting on the forum. Before he left, he spread around these legendary canteloupe seeds. Supposedly they were good and to show that, they had no netting on the skin compared to a regular canteloupe.
I got some seeds from another member who got them from him. I sprouted them this spring and was hyped up for the melon. As you can see in the pictures, we were successful. Today I tried this one. After months of getting hyped up for this, I was ready to eat it.
I am here on behalf of the forum to determine if these melons are legit. I opened it up and wow did it smell good. Was I amazed! The aroma was wafting around the kitchen and my whole family sniffed the melon's aromas. Unluckily the taste was horrendous. The texture was not like a regular canteloupe, it was bad. Mealy and the melon fell apart. Just think about the mealiest thing you've had. For example, sometimes storebought peaches are mealy. That was totally like this! The brix was 8...

So now you are probably going like ohhh these suck. And yes they do. But in seawalnut's defense, the growing conditions of these were bad. I threw them in a communal garden bed thingy with my pineapple plants and never gave them fertilizer. Half the time they were wilting. I also planted a few melons in my greenhouse and yard, but the ones in the yard died to animal and the greenhouse ones are struggling. So I'll be back to give you all an update when I get the growing conditions perfected. I believe it will get better. Also I have seeds to share now!!! Keep in mind there are no other melons here to hybridize with so the thing should be legit. Also the melon could have ripened up another day or so I think.

Seawalnut seems like a cool person and I'd love to meet him. No hate to him or his melons!

And that wraps up todays story time with Jaboticaba45!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Another Florida Escapade write up!
« on: July 22, 2022, 02:00:20 PM »
Hey all I just got back from FL and I guess I’ll share what went on down there…
First off, I want to thank everyone who let me come and visit. Many of the people I saw I met from here. The fruit community is close with each other and it’s like a spider web of connections.
This summer has been pretty boring with me just studying and such, but it was nice to have a fun trip before school starts again…anyway, I’m too tired to write up exactly who I visited and everything that happened, but here’s some pictures.

As you can see, I was gifted 2 jacks and one hybrid…unfortunately I dislike soft jackfruits and am slightly allergic to the sap. At one persons place, there was a big jackfruit with the biggest arils I’ve seen, but it was a soft one! Everyone enjoyed it except for me! Flavor is good, but where are the crunchy ones? The largest jackfruit in the picture was not too flavorful. I think I’m done with them. I’m still waiting on the hybrid to soften up. Last year I got one from the same person and i enjoyed it very much. I also got to tast lakoocha and it was very good…similar to Kwai muk.

At one person’s  pace I stopped by he gave me lots of fruit and such. But what caught my eye was the abiu. Based on past experiences, abiu is not good. It has a bad aftertaste and has sap. But I’m sooo glad he gave them to me. I now love this fruit and I can probably put it in my top 10-15. Give things a second chance!

I was able to source some seashore mangosteens from three different sources. People think I’m crazy, but I love this fruit. The flavor is so good like sour green apple. If you like sour fruits, this is for you!

Unfortunately this year for mangoes was bad. I missed the order in tropical acres farms. They post fruit for pickup at 9 or so, and I had the page pulled up and was about to order. But then my mom distracted me as she needed help finding parking and no more than 20 minutes later, they were sold out. Luckily many people here were willing to share their mangoes and I also got some from Zills.
I’ve had fun eating through them. This year the Pickering we had had a coconut taste. Ive never had that flavor before the Pickering before that were normal. Interesting ain’t it? I had Carrie and i fell in love with her. Another good one is Kathy.

I have to thank my mom for being willing to drive down and let her son buy trees and fruits. My dad was working so the driving fell onto us. This trip was so exhausting for her as it was 4 days of non stop driving from place to place. At least I helped out and got in about 8-10 total hours of driving. Also thank my sister for enduring being crammed in the back with all the trees. Fun times isn’t it?
I’d say I have the best parents in the world!

A big thanks to everyone who let me stop by. I think in total it was 10 different places ranging from nursery to collector to farm.

I didn’t mention anyones names of who I visited just in case they wanted to stay private. I don’t want to blow up other people or have people asking me how I got to visit some! I respect peoples privacy!
But if you don’t care, feel free to say something!

It was cool talking with everyone about fruits and tree related things. Can’t wait to go down next year or sooner…if things go right, I’ll be down before the year ends! Fingers crossed!

My tropical fruit growing has had a humble start from a first grader trying to grow a coconut in Virginia now to me having one of the most diverse collections of tropical fruit in TN. I’ve gone a long way and am excited for what’s to come! It’s nice seeing the result of time and work when I visit others who have been in the hobby longer than I have. Wherever you are or how accomplished you are, don’t give up!

This writing is very informal and may have grammatical errors. This isn’t English class, so let’s go easy now! Thanks for reading!

Ok so I’m going to FL
I’m going next week or so so I need to earn this fast…the only way? Sell rare plants!
If you purchase from me, think of it as you getting a rare plant and giving me double the money you spent even though you didn’t! I try to give back to the forum and was able to put a nice large group seed order last year. I hope some of you are willing to help me out! If you want to donate, also that’s cool!
Here’s what’s for sale

Double grafted coronata Jaboticaba unkown parent tree but looks like restinga. Asking $75.

4 Eugenia sulcata asking $75

Eugenia pyriformis var.gigante asking $80for both seeds were from Brazil last year

Grafted scarlet…scion came from fruiting tree $50

An hai Yangmei $300 treated for RKN

Double grafted coronata also restinga I think $75

Prices don’t include shipping. Some plants may need to grow more before shipping. I’ll ship out when I get back if so. Keep in mind that mail can get lost or confiscated. If you live in CA or AZ or HI there are risk of confiscation although quite small.

Also have more scarlet and coronata grafted plants. Just ask about pricing etc…
