Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Is Salak pruneable?

Try Salacca zalacca var amboinensis 'dwarf', it is much more suitable for interiors, although with the same thorns. With the advantage of being apomictic.

It is important to take the security of your home into consideration. On my property I have two avocados that are around 30 years old and huge branches have broken and fallen with their load of still immature fruit. Of course, this characteristic should not be common to all cultivars.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Pinus maximartinezii

Hi,
They are still well, all seven are alive, they were transferred to larger containers with some damage to the roots, apparently without damage, two containers fell in the wind, but without damage! I hope this continues, they are doing well but with little visible growth. Exposed to wind and partial sun, very hot at this time, they are irrigated together with other plants twice a day.

Koloc, not toloc, sorry

The dilution of the gibberellic cid product is done at 1gr to 1l of water. This ratio represents 1000ppm. I get success this last month with seeds of Annona coriacea, almost all seeds germinated in few days, but each species is different. If you want to make it stronger or weaker , just add or subtract the product in the same proportion of water , that is 2000ppm = 2gr for every 1 liter of water, 500ppm = 0.5gr for 1 liter of water.
1 liter of water is enough to treat many seeds, so to avoid wasting it, divide the amount you bought into portions of 0.2 grams, maybe a laboratory or pharmacy can do this for you. Every 0.2 grams I make 200ml of solution and it is enough for a lot of seeds. Now here's the thing: before diluting the product in water, first it is necessary to dilute it in alcohol as follows: place the 0.2 g in a small cup, add 3 or 4 drops of alcohol and stir with a chopstick until completely diluted. If necessary, add a few more drops of alcohol.
Once the product is diluted, just top up with the volume of water and soak the seeds for the desired time.

Seeds of Annona crassiflora and A coriacea from Brazilian cerrado are very difficult to germinate, they need to be treated with a solution of gibberellic acid in water at 1000 ppm for one or two days. There are several published references about the germination of these species, which can be downloaded from the internet, although most are in Portuguese, you can translate with the translator or something similar. The seeds have morphological dormancy and need this type of treatment for embryo maturation and germination. As for pollination, it is mainly carried out by Scarabeideae Dinastinae, they are large beetles that, attracted by the smell and temperature, spend time inside the flowers, which are relatively large. In Greece I think you would have to pollinate manually, although I don't know if that's possible.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: ISO: Carica species seed
« on: February 16, 2023, 12:14:34 PM »
Carica papaya is the only species in the genus Carica, check the monograph of the family at https://herbaria.plants.ox.ac.uk/bol/caricaceae
The closest relatives of Carica papya are Horovitzia cnidoscoloides and the three Jarilla species, possible hybrids should be tried with these species and Carica, if when referring to 'hybrids' you are referring to interspecific hybrids.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Canarium ovatum
« on: February 10, 2023, 06:02:13 AM »
My plants of Canarium ovatum are in containers to grown more before put in yhe ground, but are not good! They have dropped all the leaves, they are new but without leaves. Advice on how to proceed? Excess water? Poor drainage? We are now in summer here in the southern hemisphere, I thought it was too much sun and too much heat, but in the covered greenhouse with less light they did not improve.
Thanks

Does anyone have information if Mangifera casturi is susceptible or resistant to mango wilt caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata? Thanks.

I have 10 seed plants that I sowed, none of which originated more than one branch, I don't think they are polyembryonic, at least in my case.

For my taste Annona crassiflora is very tasty, although it has a strong odor, Cacans is edible but not very tasty, cloying.
