Greg was not kidding about germination rates - Im getting roughly 6-7%. I'm going to grow these out instead of sell them for now, testing them in different environments. Will offer to the forum once I have a solid population.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Hybridizing mangifera species
« on: July 14, 2021, 01:00:08 PM »
This is cool stuff!

Mangifera odorata Griff. (Anacardiaceae), was suggested to be a hybrid between M. indica L. and M. foetida Lour. due to morphological intermediacy. Results from this study show that M. indica and M. foetida produced unique amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) profiles. Mangifera odorata did not produce any unique bands. All the M. odorata samples additively inherit bands specific to M. indica and M. foetida, which strongly suggested the hybrid origin. Three major clusters were produced in the phenogram. All samples of M. indica, M. foetida and M. odorata segregated distinctly. Mangifera odorata was closer to M. foetida than to M. indica, indicating that backcrossing with M. foetida might have taken place.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Fire Ant Control?
« on: July 14, 2021, 11:29:11 AM »
 Google says

Fire ants are extremely effective in controlling plant-feeding insects and arthropods such as boll weevils in cotton and stinkbugs in soybean. Under some conditions fire ants keep the pest populations below the level of economic loss providing a financial savings to growers

I wonder how helpful they are against south Florida's insects. Or do they harm fruit trees?

I don't have experience with cherimola to confirm. The only annona I have growing straight up is a coriacea. The rest of them share a similar branching pattern shown in the ilama.

2 is probably not illama if they are extremely rare over there, I would say cherimoya is accurate.

My illama does have both pointed and rounded leaves on the same plant. Will upload pic later.

My tree is still small so not sure of variability, but could it have to do with the rains? We went from drought to monsoon pretty drastically.

Is this the first flowering? None of mine have set fruit until the 2nd/3rd flowering.

Pretty sure that's a Florida soapberry. The fruits open similar to ackee and are inedible.

Thank you for the links, going to try it with mango, lychee, loquat and a few others. Will report back in time.

Can anything special be done to cause seedling rootstock to fuse faster?
