« on: March 08, 2022, 09:59:28 AM »
Didn't know my home country had an endemic Annona, I gotta have it. If you know anyone with a tree or access to one, please let me know. I just wish I knew how to ship seeds from JA to Florida

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Rooting Geffner atemoya cuttings
« on: March 05, 2022, 10:20:51 PM »
I put some geffner cuttings in cloning gel, hardwood rooting hormone (hormone 8), and root magic mycorrhizae and they have all developed root nodes, should I expect them to root? One even started pushing leaves

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Buying from the seedhunters website
« on: March 05, 2022, 11:45:42 AM »
Tried to figure out the shipping on some seeds when I decide to buy them, pressed order, doesn’t allow me to put in any payment info, and tells me I made the order? I’m assuming that’s just to get the seeds ready and then I’m told to pay them to get the seeds sent to me? Because I didn’t want them now.

Was this a bug or something?

Is hard pruning the entire tree and spraying it the only way to cure it? the tree is about 5-6 meters tall and bushy. there is just no way I can spray it with a regular copper spray bottle without blinding myself with all the chemicals. Who can my parents call to get it cured? We plan on adding another mango tree but we lose hundreds of fruits with this disease so there's no point now.

Seeds sourced from @raulglezruiz! I have just gotten into this hobby around November, about 2 months later I bought seeds from Raul. I soaked them in 800-1000PPM GA3 until they completely sank to the bottom of their containers (2-3) days) A week ago one seed has sprouted while the 3 others slowly crack open! I managed to germinate such a difficult variety of Annona in under a month. it took about 20 days for this seed to germinate. The stem is a bright, but deep magenta/red, but will probably grow out of it. It still hasn't lifted the seed out of the soil yet. I'm so scared of getting it out of the cup and into a pot, should I want it until it drops the seed coat? It is a very shallow red cup of soil, half of the cup.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Getting annona stems larger at a young age?
« on: February 28, 2022, 07:55:54 PM »
Trying to speed through my journey of collecting annona by getting my seedling's rootstocks ready, but most of their stems are slender and short, the shortness isn't a bother, how do I get the stems thicker other than just waiting for them to grow on their own? How old is the right age for an Annona seedling to be grafted onto?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / LF Yellow Birula scion or seeds.
« on: February 20, 2022, 08:09:35 PM »
Unfortunately I don’t have enough rootstock to make use of the amount of scions I need to buy to obtain a yellow birula. If anyone has one scion or some seeds that they are willing to sell to me it would be greatly appreciated! If not I’ll just come back around next pruning season, should have more mature rootstock by then!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Why do people have “minimum purchases” ?
« on: February 20, 2022, 05:52:46 PM »
Not trying to be rude or anything but I’m quite new here and I’ve never seen anything about a minimum purchase before? Anyone know why sellers have this procedure? for example, “ minimum of this amount of items in order to make a purchase” I see people selling scions and I want to purchase 1 from 2 people because I only have 2 rootstock, but I have to buy extra things which makes it very expensive and difficult as those extra Scions can’t be used! I won’t make any comments on what the sellers should do because I really don’t know why they do this, is it a shipping thing? Can anyone explain please :)

Again I’m just curious and want to learn not trying to discredit anyone or be rude

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Ultimate potted plant food forest?
« on: February 16, 2022, 09:58:29 AM »
What are some delicious fruit, whether rare, tropical, or temperate, that I can grow in pots (of any size) in south Florida zone 10?
So far this is my collection, I wouldn't mind the whole thing being Annona but id like more variety.

(All seedlings)
Soursop
Rollinia
Ilama seeds germinating
Lisa atemoya seedlings
Temoylata seeds germinating
Cherimoya seeds (hopefully will crack soon)
Sweetsop/sugar apple
Apples
over 30 varieties of dragon fruit
passionfruit
Jaboticaba
lychee
Mango

Also, I like fruit that are creamy, sweet, jelly or jam-like texture.

(non-seedling)
Copious amounts of pineapples

(Trees I  want) (unsure if pot-friendly, nor good pricing)
Ice cream bean
grafted lychee
cacao

Feel free to suggest fruit plants/trees that grow well in pots please!

I want to have my whole yard filled with fruit trees, unfortunately, I don't "own" a home, just a teen. So I have to keep my plants potted in my backyard. I also plan to move them to my own home in the future if I'm blessed enough to reach that time.

(if my parents like some of the fruit and want to keep a few trees I wouldn't mind)

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Annona Reticulata seedlings?
« on: February 15, 2022, 04:05:57 PM »
Hey everyone I’m trying to find a cheap small tree or seedling that can be shipped. Can’t find a seedling ANYWHERE online. And the grafted or air layers go up $70+ with shipping

Not looking for anything specific really, maybe sugarlata or some sort of reticulata hybrid or just a normal reticulata. Other than that I'm just looking for hybrid genetics.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Can I grow Jackfruit in a pot?
« on: February 08, 2022, 11:35:58 AM »
Is it possible to grow one and have its fruit in a 25 gal? I know it would involve immense pruning to train the trunk and get it small over a few years right? I plan on repotting it in a 1 gal, 5 gal, 15 gal, then 25 gal over the years to train it/keep it small. I'm growing it from a seed in a small half gal pot right now. any tips?

Can someone sell me a mature air layered loquat, please?

All my seeds in cactus soil and peat moss have cracked. I did a few second dip in a copper plant disease (killer?) spray because they had began to have white patches of mold because  of my improper germination methods. Since then the seeds have continued to crack and swell but also developed blue shards around them all though I’ve washed and wiped them off after sitting them in the solution for a few seconds. Are they bound to die or am witnessing them germinate?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Impatient with Annona hybrid seeds, need tips
« on: January 31, 2022, 07:30:32 PM »
I currently have Temoylata, Lisa Atemoya, and Cherimoya in damp peat moss in a Ziploc bag on a heat mat. These seeds were treated with GA3 500 for a few hours, it still wasn't enough for them to absorb a good amount of water if any at all they have all absorbed water while in the peart moss and no longer float. I saw testa rupture on one of the Lisa seeds and thought I was in the clear for them to mature soon.

I have only germinated one Annona seed since I started this hobby 2 months ago. so far I've had over 20 Annona seeds that have not germinated in a month, mostly sugar apple and soursop.

I am worried that I will leave these in the Ziploc bags and they will just never be germinated because they rotted or just don't as not every seed from fruit is viable.

I see all these posts about people getting seeds going in a week or two. How can I make sure I get germination and know that they wont rot or die or something. Annona seeds are painful to work with.

should I just ignore the bags on the heat mat for another 7 days?

I've recently acquired some Temoylata and Lisa Pride seeds from a great guy, RyanScions. The temoylata are small but hard while the Lisa Prides are larger, rounder, and thicker than soursop seeds. How would I go about germinating these seeds? Please look at my experiment plan and give advice where ever necessary, ex. should I soak them longer? (Yes/No) , etc

Ga3 tests
I plan to do these tests. All seeds are currently soaking in these mixtures 5 seeds of each,
3 of each seed- 100ppm of Gibberellic Acid Group- soaked for 22 hours
3 of each seed- 300PPM of Gibberellic Acid Group- soaked for 22 hours
And another group with a few drops of 100ppm Gibberellic Acid with 1 of each seed in Perlite and pumice ( will dry out quickly in south FL heat, no need to remove, I think the acid concentration is also too low to harm the seeds)

After they finish soaking today I plan on removing the seeds, grouping them to them back together ( all temoylatas and Lisa Prides separated), and putting them in a Ziploc bag with peat moss outside) ( I've only ever germinated Annona with peat moss)

I appreciate you reading, Thanks for your time and Help.
