I've started using Acid water that I make by soaking old citrus ( fruit & Rhine) in 5-gal. bucket then cut soaked water 50% with my well water and ph comes out 4.5-5..  Sure has helped my Paw Paws. My well water is around 6.8 ph.

fyliu, yeah Harvey was one of the guys that went on that trip also Jack Swords who also posts on this forum along with John V. from San Francisco area and Bob H. from San Diego who helped put the trip together. What made the trip special was that Bob Chambers was able to meet us there and decipher his grove maps for us a little. Talk about mapping and tagging trees was a bit of a nightmare! ::)

It's to bad what's happening to Steve S. Exotica nursery he has been around in CRFG almost since the beginning and has helped a lot of rare fruiterers by introducing them to many tropical exotics. To bad business end didn't match the growing side, but I have witnessed many a CRFG Fruit Festival where he was supposed to be there and never showed up or showed up so late that folks didn't have a chance to buy his plants, but I must say hes like that battery bunny he just keeps going!  :(

Wow Cyclonenat, you are pushing the envelope of growing down there in Invercargil. Past through there on vacation many years back very nice little town. I would sure protect that white sapote come winter time and needs wind shelter for sure. I've got thirty plus varieties on maybe 12 or so trees and I'm on the Central Coast of Calif. 2-3 miles inland from ocean with cool summer growing conditions. My trees grow well but not like they do inland more where there  is heat. So fruit production is not great but we do get some but wish it was more. Endeed up with some many varieties because I went with some other rare fruiters a few years ago down to De luce area in nothern San Deigo area to old CRFG member Bob Chambers White Sapote groves where he has 40 + varieties growing, our quest was to help save alot of these varieties because Bob is getting up in age and future of groves is uncertain. So we all collected as many as possible in one day and shared wood with many calif. rare fruit growers in hopes of keeping these varieties alive. So, any way take good care of that white sapote and best of luck growing 8)

Thomas, too cool i have been thinking along that same line for my trees but don't know how the Alum.-tags would hold up to salt air. I'm about two miles inland on central coast of Ca. How are your tags holding up and how long have you had them!

Oscar, here is Arroyo Grande, Ca. actually I'm 2-miles as crow fly behind Oceano/Pismo Dunes.

I got some seeds from South Africa in 2010, I kicked the seed coat and soaked in G.A3 overnight and planted. I think about 60% came up and I've given away some have two left and had one outside last year under shade cloth with frost cloth on top. That marula froze but came back from root. Other plant was in my Greenhouse over winter and was fine although its outside now and is just barely starting to leaf out!! I don't think there happy here.

I'll be attending the F.O.F. up in Santa Rosa,Ca. And Joe Sabal who is on the board of directors is in my local C.R.F.G. chapter and I can find out from him when it's decided. I just hope they can keep the price down because I know the HTFG conference last year seemed a little pricey for us mainlanders. :o

Yes Oscar, We've known it was on back burner for a few years now it looks like it's going to happen !!! can't wait. 8)
