Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Orange Guabiroba, ready for pre-order
« on: September 17, 2023, 12:15:58 AM »
You can now reserve your seeds! Limited stock:

Indigenous Name: Guabiroba derives from the Tupi-Guarani language, meaning "fruit with a bitter rind," a distinctive feature that anyone can identify when chewing the peel of this fruit. There are two main varieties: the tree variety, popularly known as orange guabiroba or wild guabiroba, and the creeping variety known as creeping guabiroba or beach guabiroba.

Origin: Guabiroba is native to the semi-deciduous forests (which shed their leaves in winter) throughout the Paraná River basin and the Atlantic Forest from Espírito Santo to Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Characteristics: Guabiroba can either be a 50 cm tall shrub with lateral branches extending up to 1.5 meters or a tree ranging from 5 cm to 20 meters in height with a straight trunk measuring 30 to 50 cm in diameter. It features furrowed, corky bark that peels off in layers. Creeping guabiroba is easily recognizable by its round, light green leaves with wrinkled margins and deeply impressed veins on the upper surface. The leaves are papery in texture, measuring 4.5 to 8 cm in length and 2 to 4 cm in width. They have a wedge-shaped base, undulating margins, and obtuse (rounded) apices. Yellow guabiroba, on the other hand, has narrower leaves, measuring a maximum of 1.2 to 2.2 cm in width, with a leathery texture and acuminate apices, distinguished by their yellowish-green color. The flowers are single, solitary, axillary or lateral, and hermaphroditic, measuring 1.5 to 2.0 cm in length, actinomorphic (with several planes passing through a common axis), with long pedicels (stalk supporting the flower) and a calyx (external envelope) with 5 sharp lobes or incisions. The corolla (inner envelope) consists of 4 to 6 ovate white petals.

Cultivation Tips: Guabiroba is a fast-growing tree that can withstand temperatures as low as 0 degrees Celsius and thrives at various altitudes. The soil can be deep, moist, neutral, sandy, clayey (red soil), or even rocky, but it should have good natural fertility. The tree starts bearing fruit from the 3rd year for creeping guabiroba and from the 5th year for yellow guabiroba.

Seedlings: The seeds are cream-colored, rounded, and horseshoe-shaped but lose their germination power quickly. They germinate in 10 to 40 days with a substrate rich in organic matter and daily irrigation. Yellow guabiroba seedlings reach 30 cm in 4 months, while creeping guabiroba seedlings reach 20 cm in 4 to 5 months.

Planting: Guabiroba can be planted in full sun or in forests with well-spaced large trees. Planting spacing should be 6 x 6 m for yellow guabiroba or 3 x 3 m for creeping guabiroba. Dig holes that are 40 cm wide, deep, and high, mixing the loose soil with 500g of limestone, 1 kg of ashes, and 8 kg of well-rotted organic matter, allowing it to mature for 2 months. The best planting time is from September to October. After planting, water every two weeks for the first 3 months, and then only if there is a lack of water during the flowering season. Creeping guabiroba can be planted in large pots with a 40 cm wide and 50 cm high opening, using a substrate composed of 50% red soil, 30% organic matter, and 20% sandy plaster.

Cultivation: Prune only to shape the canopy and remove branches growing at the base of the trunk. Fertilize with organic compost, such as 6 kg of well-rotted organic matter and 30 g of N-P-K 10-10-10, doubling this amount every year until the 4th year.

Uses: Guabiroba bears fruit from September to January at Misiones. The fruits can be enjoyed fresh or used to make delicious jams, ice creams, and liqueurs. These trees are essential in permanent preservation reforestation as their fruits provide sustenance for various bird species and other animals, while their wood is of excellent quality for interior works. Guabiroba seeds are a delightful taste of nature's bounty, and cultivating them is a rewarding experience.

The Mistol fruit, scientifically known as Ziziphus mistol, is a unique and exotic fruit native to South America, particularly found in regions like Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia. The fruit itself is small, typically about the size of a cherry, and it has a round to oval shape. When ripe, the Mistol fruit has a dark purple to blackish color with a smooth, thin skin that surrounds its flesh.

The flavor of the Mistol fruit is often described as special and distinctive, as it possesses a taste reminiscent of chocolate. This unique flavor profile makes it a sought-after delicacy in its native regions. The fruit's flesh is sweet, with a slightly tart undertone, and it has a soft texture. They also make "café de mistol"

The Mistol tree is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree that can reach heights of up to 15 meters (50 feet). It is known for its attractive, dark green, glossy leaves and small, fragrant, yellow flowers that bloom in clusters. The tree produces fruit during the summer months, and the ripe fruit can be harvested and consumed fresh or dried.

Cultivating Mistol trees typically involves planting them in well-draining soil and providing them with adequate sunlight. These trees are known for their drought tolerance and can thrive in semi-arid conditions. They are also relatively hardy and require minimal care once established.

To prepare Mistol fruit for consumption, it is commonly dried. The dried Mistol fruit can be used in various culinary applications, such as desserts, jams, and beverages. Its unique chocolate-like flavor makes it a versatile ingredient in both sweet and savory dishes.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Jaboticaba Luján (Plinia sp.)!
« on: July 10, 2023, 07:43:00 AM »
*  Jaboticaba Luján (Plinia sp.) . Taste is a bit different to other jabos I tasted (Sabara, Red, Serrana, Campo Ramon, Eldorado gota, INTA, Giant Piray, etc.), juicy, delicious and sweet, good seed to pulp ratio, well balanced taste, black fruits (not redish) up to 2.6cm diam, we always do icecreams with it.

Fruiting in temperate climate! Not precocious. Marco Lacerda wrote about this jabo "Very unusual. Distinct from P. jaboticaba, P. trunciflora, P. cauliflora and several others. I'd approach it to P. oblongata and to Pingo de Mel (Honey Drop), however distinct from both due to the semi-persistent rounded sepals at the calyx."

It is very noticeable that after 2 months in the refrigerator the fruits look so good! I don't know any Eugenia that has this characteristic, which gives it commercialization potential for this hyper rare Eugenia. The shrub is very beautiful and grows slowly, the flavor is good without being the sweetest of its kind, 2 to 3.5cm diameter.

Take advantage to buy seeds now at a discounted price!

The Giant Piray Jaboticaba is a rare fruit native to the Piray River region in Misiones, Argentina. The Piray River, also known as Pira-í Guazú River, is a tributary of the Paraná River located in the province of Misiones. Its name in Guarani language means "river of fish".

The 80 years old tree has elongated leaves, similar to P. coronata but maybe of a different species, with larger leaves and very large fruits as seen in the photos. The pulp is sweet, juicy and of excellent flavor. The seeds are large but the proportion of pulp is very good.

It is very difficult to find this species because we only know of one tree, owned by an old man who lives in the jungle and has little contact with the city of Eldorado, which he visits from time to time. Last year we had lost contact but we have resumed it, so this is a great opportunity to get seeds that we may never have again!

We are taking reservations, you can send an email to marcospcmusica@gmail.com. Shipments within and outside the USA will begin in approximately 1 month, depending on the time required by state agencies to process international shipments. We will ship to the USA and from there to everywhere through my partner in the USA.

UPDATE: new photo!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Araticú from Argentina/Brazil
« on: April 21, 2023, 12:55:54 PM »

Introducing the Araticú #3, a delicious native fruit from Argentina and Brazil that is sure to satisfy your taste buds! We have a limited stock of these highly sought-after seeds available for purchase. You can buy 5 seeds for $14 USD or 10 seeds for $23 USD, etc.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ba0iLzeia6R2Wry1IZd8RABU25il08_JTFhH158nTmA/edit#gid=0

The Araticú #3 tree grows up to 6-8 meters tall with a brown trunk and whitish spots, measuring 30-40 cm in diameter. Its branches form in a zigzag shape, and the leaves are simple with a short, yellowish stalk measuring 0.8-1.7 cm in length. The leaf blade is lanceolate in shape, with a cuneate base and an acuminated or tapered tip, measuring 5-12 cm in length and 1.5-2.9 cm in width. The species is easily identified by its glabrous and elliptical leaves. The cream-colored flowers are axillary and helical in shape, with 3 petals and nectaries located at their base. The fruits are syncarps with an areolate skin (with protruding dots) that is yellow with black spots, measuring up to 7 cm in length and 5 cm in width.

To grow Araticú #3, you'll need a subtropical climate, but it can withstand frosts of up to -7 degrees Celsius. Adapts well to sandy or clay soils that are deep, well-draining, with a pH ranging from acidic to neutral and rich in organic matter.

The seeds are a grayish-brown color and are triangular in shape, retaining germination power for up to 2 years if stored clean and dry in a dark place. When planted immediately after harvesting, they germinate in 40 to 75 days. The seedlings reach 40 cm in height with 8-10 months of age, but they prefer a shaded environment for proper formation. Fruit production starts in 4-5 years, depending on the soil and cultural practices.

To plant Araticú #3, you can grow it in full sun or mixed reforestation areas as it produces edible fruits for wildlife. In a plantation, it's best to plant it in a 5 x 5 or 6 x 6 m spacing, digging a hole that is 50 cm wide, deep, and tall, filling it with 20% sand and about 8 kg of well-cured organic compost. If the soil is too acidic, add 2 kg of lime to the hole and leave it to cure for 3 months before planting. Irrigate with 10 liters of water per week for the first 2 months.

When cultivating Araticú #3, only prune the crown's formation and remove any branches that grow at the base of the trunk or cross into the crown's interior. Fertilize with organic compost, such as 5-6 kg of well-cured chicken manure and 50 g of N-P-K 10-10-10, doubling this amount every year until the 2nd year, then continue fertilizing annually in the spring. Remember to distribute the fertilizer in the projection of the crown, with a distance from the trunk equal to the circumference's measurement.

Araticú #3 fruits in late summer and can be grown in green areas and urban reforestation due to its small size. The fruits are delicious for consumption in their natural state. The fruits can also be depulped, and the pulp can be frozen for immediate use in making jams, mousses, ice creams, jellies, juices, and sparkling beverages like champagne. The fruits have a moderately thick skin and are resistant to handling, lasting for about 8 days after harvest in fresh places and up to 20 days in refrigerators.

Don't miss out on the chance to taste the best-flavored Araticú native to Argentina and Brazil. Order your seeds now before they run out! Contact me at marcospcmusica gmail.com or PM, thanks.

We are offering rare seeds of the Araçá Açú fruit tree, an exotic species native to Brazil. This little-known but robust tree produces delicious yellow berries with a sweet and tart flavor. The seeds are $11 for 5 seeds or $19 for 10 seeds. Shipping within the US is $5 (outside US: $16). We have many other rare and exotic seed species as well.

About Araçá Açú:

Araçá Açú is the Tupi Guarani name meaning “big fruit with eyes,” referring to the persistent sepals that look like eyelashes.
It is endemic to the savannas and rocky fields of Minas Gerais state in Brazil.
This rare and little-known species was discovered in Helton's expeditions by 2018.
It is a medium-sized evergreen tree reaching 5 meters tall, with multiple trunks, gray-brown bark, and a rounded canopy.
The leaves are thick, leathery, and oblong. White, fragrant flowers are 2.5 cm across.
The fruit is a round, yellow berry 4-5 cm in diameter with a indented crown at the apex and persistent sepals. The pulp is white, sweet and tart, amazing taste similar to a blend of guava, pineaple and pear, surrounding 8-12 cream-colored seeds.

Cultivation tips:

Araçá Açú adapts to various climates and soils. It can grow from sea level up to 1000 m altitude, with 600-1800 mm of rain per year.
It prefers well-drained, fertile soils with a pH of 4.5 to 6.0. Though native to hot climates, it is cold hardy to -3°C and drought tolerant for 6-7 months.
It will produce fruit 3-4 years after planting.
Seeds germinate in 35-55 days. Seedlings should be kept in shade for 3 months after transplanting.
Space trees 5 x 5 meters apart in full sun. Plant in October to January. Water thoroughly after planting and every 15 days if no rain.
Prune only to remove low branches and inward-facing branches. Fertilize with compost and a balanced fertilizer. Resistant to pests and disease.

Uses:

The fruit can be eaten fresh, but avoid the large seeds.
The small, evergreen tree is good for urban landscaping under power lines.
The beautiful trunk and white flowers make it decorative for small gardens. The fruit attracts birds.
Excellent for reforestation projects as it is very hardy, fruits early, and supports wildlife.
The flowers are a good source of honey for native bees.

This rare and exotic fruit tree from Brazil would make an interesting addition to any garden or collection. Order your seeds today to grow this intriguing and productive tree. Please contact us with any questions: marcospcmusica gmail.com or PM me.
