Guanabana flower?
« on: November 07, 2015, 01:52:33 PM »
This 6'er has been in a pot outdoor since March 2015. Temps at night have been mid to high 40s the last couple weeks. This morning I noticed  few cold-damaged leaves, so I moved it to the greenhouse. During the move I saw this!

Wow! That's wonderful. You planted this from seed right? How many years?

This was not from seed. Got the tree about 2 years ago, 4feet tall at that time.
Thanks

very nice, I'm trying to fruit one in a greenhouse too, well only during winter it lives in the greenhouse. I also use an air pruning pot.

Well, I just realized that with just 1 flower, I'm not gonna get any fruit. Don't all annonas need at least 2 for pollination?

I didn't know that. Thanks for  the info. It's  exciting nevertheless.

Turned out  I overlooked 3 other flower buds, so this tree has 4. 😀 There are 3 in this photo.

Do you need to hand-pollinate guanabana?

I don't think you need to, but I will.

45F outside and in a greenhouse, probably not too many pollinators about.  I had a fruitlet that aborted and I didn't even know about until it was about done, not required in my neck of the woods, at least in the summer.
I think your chance of success is slim heading into winter, but you don't know if you don't try.

Yeah, trying is part of the fun. I don't expect anything this first year of flowering. :D

Yes, it  has several fans on timer and usually 1 (sometimes  2) heaters on thermostat. Temp is  maintained  at 60 F.

NewGen,

Have your soursop set fruit successfully? I am so happy and excited to see my newly purchased seedling ( yesterday) has 4 flowers. I never see seedling soursop has flower before. It is about 4 ft tall in one gallon pot. I don't know if I should transfer it to a new , bigger pot now or wait untill the flowers set fruits or drop.
