Paclobutrazol on avocado
« on: March 03, 2019, 09:08:48 AM »
Anyone have first hand experience using paclo on avocados?  It's been used for decades on mangos in India.

I've been using it for years to decrease internode length, for dwarfing.  According to this study the increase in yields are not only incredible during "good" years but also during off years.   We're talking - "reaching 97 and 174% above the controls in two groves".  "The best additional yields, of 379 and 546% in two different groves, were obtained from sprays at the stages of elongating inflorescences and incipient anthesis."  https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/030442389090073N

Just don't use it on your cannabis crop in CA!

I don't think the use of it is allowed here by the FDA.

it's not a pesticide, it's a synthetic anti-auxin. Its side effects are unknown. But it seems to disrupt the plant growth and induce flowering. Some studies say it leases residues.
Also in tissue culture is thought to induce mutation into clones.

In India they use it on mangoes because KNO3 doesn't work so well in their climate.

I would not eat fruits constantly treated with this.

Residues, of what?  Active ingredient is a rate of .065%   They've been using it in India forever on mangos, Australia on avocados too under product names like Austar and Culstar. https://www.actahort.org/books/820/820_48.htm

I have Bonzi.

Please don't breath that Hungarian air.  It's contaminated.
