Is Grafting lychees possible?
« on: September 02, 2021, 09:22:38 PM »
Hi, I have a lychee seedling i want to graft some named varieties onto. is this possible? I tried searching onlin but all i got was "air grafting" (for those of you who dont understand its air layering  :o)
If its possible, are there any cons to this and pros to this? How about the take rate? Thx  ;D
Cheers!

Yes it’s possible but the cambium is only active during specific times of active growth. Modified top wedge grafts work well. Follow this paper for specific details. I have also been successful with approach grafts.

I have a grafted longan tree. I got it from a nursery. The biggest advantage
would be the seedling rootstock will have a taproot. An airlayered tree will not.

Yes.

Some have actually gone beyond Lychee on Lychee.
