Help on Plinia I.D ?
« on: May 05, 2022, 02:09:08 PM »
I got these cuttings from a local guy who grew it from seed. It makes red fruit and he thought it was red hybrid but I’m thinking it’s maybe a phitrantha? Big leafs that are fuzzy underneath and also the newer growth of stems is fuzzy. He says he thinks his Sabara fruit taste better.

That doesn't look like a plinia; it looks more like a myrciaria...myrciaria glazioviana, the yellow jaboticaba

Could be Myrciaria glomerata... common name Red Cabeludinha
Eugenia luschnathiana = CURUIRI.    Talisia esculenta = PITOMBA
I do not recommend people deal with Fruit Lovers, Prisca Mariya or Fernando Malpartida

Extremely unlikely, that is one of the most rare collector species and only a few people have them.

Not in this neck of the woods, people here are just learning about Sabara and don’t want to pay Glomerata prices for anything.

Just got word these seeds came from Adam “flyingfoxfruits” the fruits that come from this are red and fruited for the first time this year. He didn’t get pictures. From the thickness of the cuttings he gave me the tree must be pretty big

Wild, well yeah Adam is the source that brought them in years ago. Your friend must have needed to prune to cut big sticks off an extremely rare tree of that rareness.
Best bet is to graft them on Myrciaria Glazioviana or maybe you can work some rooting magic.

I showed him picture of Glomerata fruit and he says his fruit is different. Maybe this is some sort of hybrid?

A picture of his tree would help.
His definitely fruited ? Fruit pic would solve the mystery too.
