It's a cool fruit no doubts. I'd consider getting some if I knew it was hardy for sure down to 20F or so. If it's truly a zone 7 then that'd certainly work.

I have seen several people now post pictures of their Kadsura below freezing. I believe in their native range it reaches those temps.

Can you describe the taste of this fruit, which one is the sweetest?
Also, how large is the fruit.

I have not tasted the fruit and from the looks of it, not many people in the states have. I do not know of any specific info regarding these varieties.

The fruit seems to be somewhere in the size range of grapefruit.

Ok, thanks for your feedback. I did read online that this plant is scarce and hard to find. The fruit is like a giant raspberry and the vine grows fast. This sure sounds like an interesting fruit, I would think you would get many people interested in this plant. I hope I get the red or yellow fruit from the seedling vine. This is probably easier to grow than the Yangmei.

you can't even compare to growing yangmei!!

This is very easy to grow and they enjoy shade. As far as I know, this was only introduced a couple years ago, to the US and yes, it is very rare even in its native area.

do they love shade?

If so, can they be grown indoors with little to no light?

How about heat tolerance and soil needs?

I'm in Vegas and I might be interested in giving these a go, especially if they're shade tolerant.
Continuing my journey to disprove those who say "You can't grow that in the desert" since 2013.

they love shade. I say give it a go! these are so new and unknown that we are learning as we go! I think that its got better chance than any compared to most fruits. My area gets very hot. These have probably seen in the range of 105-108 so far. I know someone growing in a hotter area and so far so good. Not sure on specific soil needs but I haven't done anything special and they seem fine.

I think they are also dioecious, so you'd have to buy at least 5 to get that rare female.

They are- not sure why you think you would need 5 though

1 plant = 1/2 shot of no female
2 plants = 1/4 chance of no female
3 plants = 1/8 chance no female

and so on, unless you know something that says males are more common than females?
