White Sapote scions (caramel and sweet tasting)
« on: June 01, 2022, 03:55:23 PM »
I have a variety that is not one of the named varieties. I call it "Mary Ln." It produces a smaller but very sweet caramel tasting fruit. It is one of the best I have tasted out here in California. It turns yellow when ready. I've added a photo of the Mary Ln. variety almost ripe.

I have scions that are $4 each with $5 1st class shipping in the US.

Thanks

Sounds delicious! Which White Sapote varieties that you’ve had does it rank near? I grafted Walton and Malibu #3 this year. If you’ve eaten those, I’d be particularly interested in your thoughts regarding Mary Ln in comparison. Thanks!

I've been up to Bob Chambers large sapote grove and grafted many, but didn't keep them because of space. I really don't remember all the varieties I have tried. This one is a tree I know of that has more sweet flavors. You may need to ask someone that has eaten many varieties.

Nice pics. I like the "up arrow"... to show which way is up. Smart.

Thanks, yeah the buds on the scions are a bit difficult to tell when they are wrapped in buddy tape.

All of those that ordered scions last will be getting them sent today. I cut fresh scions yesterday evening and wrapped them.

There are still plenty more if anyone wants some.

Thanks, Mark

Just a note to say I received my scions today. They were great scions and were very well packaged. Excited to give this variety a try. Thanks Mark!

Here are some of the grafts that I did in late May when I offered these scions. How did everyone else do on theirs?

Mine pushed within a week of grafting. Quality scions and rootstock go a long way!

Just a notice to anyone that bought Kimber Red and Green Custard Apple scions from me in May, I just realized I labeled the Red as Green and the Green as Red. I just ate a red one from what I thought was the green side of the tree. It was berry flavored and real delicious. If anyone needs a refund let me know or I can send you the right scions.

Thanks,

Mark

1 of the 3 took. The 1 that took I didn’t wrap in plastic bag. The plastic bags must have produced too much heat since the weather has been 90 plus degree for the last few weeks.  Thanks mark.

Yeah, that looks fine. I didn't cover mine with plastic and they all took.
