My papaya leaves turn yellow
« on: May 25, 2024, 03:52:42 AM »
Hi everyone,My papaya unexpectedly turned two leaves yellow and i am worried that something is wrong with it. Since we had a week of 29oC highs in Athens,Greece and the midday sun was a little intense i used to water it every night a little bit. Also i provide once a month an organic 7-7-10 fertilizer.

It looks like only older growth? No problem if so.

Try moving it to a location where it has shade part of the day and maybe to a place where there is soil under the pot rather than stone / concrete. Reflective heat and water loss in a pot could be an issue if all of the growth is affected.

I never fertilized my papaya that much, every 60 days or so in our sandy soil seems about right, when I do fertilize I water thoroughly. Careful of regularly watering too much, they do not like wet feet, mulch liberally check soil moisture if you can at the pot drain hole before watering.  If it's moist I wouldn't water.
Regards,

Thanks for the reply.I am not sure but it is likely that indeed are the older leaves that get yellow, but they are a few months old only.Is this really normal for papaya?Even last year the largest and older leaves used to get yellowish and wilted and my papaya always stayed with small and baby leaves, so i thought that i did something wrong with watering.
