Advance Order: Lucuma tree-air layer
« on: September 24, 2025, 10:38:54 PM »
This is for an air layered Lucuma, Inca Gold. I think this is one of the original trees around. It was Alfredo Chiri's tree (passed away now).

This is an advance order, once I get the go ahead to do these air layers, I will put on my air layers on the mother tree or the grafted tree from the mother tree.

I may be another 3 months or longer before I can cut the branch off, but wanted to get a list going so I know how many people want to buy one.

The cost may range from $100 to $200 depending on the size (diameter) of the branch that I air layer. You can see his fruit photo below.

Here's the requirement to be on my Advance Order List:
1. You must be a forum member for a minimum of 1 year.
2. Priority will go to those members who have purchased or traded with me before.
3. There may only be around 10 air layers for sure, any more will be sold after I cut the branch off the tree.
4. Cost is from $100 each to $200 each tree.
5. No shipping out of CA, prefer you come pickup when it is ready.
6. You should message me so I can put you on this list I will create and post below.
7. I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone. If I don't reply to your message, then you will not be able to buy one.
8. The CRFG (orange county) created a fund raiser, and scholarship with his name to honor the work he has done with rare fruit trees so most of the profit will go to his scholarship funds. His widow would be happy that Alfredo's knowledge of the lucuma was spread amongst the fruit collectors here in the states.

Once I hit the 10 names on this list, I will not take any more. You only pay me when I tell you I'm shipping your order.

Thanks, Kaz

The photo of Edgar holding the fruit is the Inca Gold from Alfredo's tree.

The last photo is Edgar with Alfredo on his left (right on the photo).

I have not tasted this fruit yet. Maybe I will see a ripe fruit on the tree this month. If I get a few fruits then I will post some photos of it and describe the taste. I know it is not the moist fruit like the CSUF arboretum lucuma de seda but it may still be good for a dry flesh fruit. Many people use it to make a shake or mix with some other things to make ice cream etc. So far the best tasting to me is the Dan's lucuma and CSUF lucuma de seda. But this Inca Gold seems to have a larger fruit than the arboretum de seda.

Kaz, what’s up with your profile?  It lists you as a guest instead of a member, so I can’t IM.
I’m interested in an air layer lucuma.

SHV,

Ok, I will put you down on the Advance List. I re-posted this on a new thread.

I have not tasted the Ica Gold fruit so I couldn't tell you from my experience. Check out the videos.

From what I have heard and read, it is more on the dry side when compared to the Lucuma de seda (moist flesh), but this fruit seems to look larger from Edgar's video.

I think Robert has a tree so he can describe it better.

Here's the post that talks about it some. From my lucuma tasting (no Inca Gold or La Paz), the best ones to eat out of hand is the lucuma de seda.
