Hi,

I know that by the Catholic University in Porto Alegre (Brazil) there are a few Campomanesia lineatifolia trees, about 20 years old. You can check out the annual weather in Porto Alegre here:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porto_Alegre#Climate

That should give you an better idea how cold hardy it is.

I'm trying to get some seeds of C. lineatifolia. Will have seeds of C. phaea, the flying saucer fruit, if anyone wants to exchange?

Oscar: I would love to do it now (I also want C- phaea), but C. lineatifolia seeds arrived here in a bag of moist soil as quickly lose their germination capacity if dried, so I planted them all.

But next year at this time I could send you seeds if you want.

Oh, very clever of you, thanks. I see historical records speak of -4 º C, but maybe those -4 ° C occurred over 20 years ago, do not know, and perhaps also the trees to be in an urban environment have never come to suffer such -4 º C, may have been at -1 ° C, I guess ...

"The winter is mild, windy, and quite changeable, which is also a feature of this time of the year. Usual winter temperatures range from 4 °C (39 °F) to 16 °C (61 °F). In the coldest days of the year the temperature may fall slightly below zero, like in 2012, when it was recorded −2.1 °C (28 °F)."

Very similar climate, just like the urban temperatures at my city.

Huertas,

I'd like to get seeds of this species, as well.  If you are able to obtain enough seeds, and are interested in buyers, please post next year when they are available, and I'll definitely be interested.

Thanks Luis, back to the chamba fruit: maybe if I fertilize and give the trees a lot of sun/water they will fruit faster: that is all I know about fruiting faster...
