SoCal 2025 Winter Trip Recs
« on: December 18, 2025, 11:12:54 PM »
Hello everyone,
I will be going to CA next week.
Any suggestions to go visit fruit related/nurseries/collectors etc.
Probably will make a run to SD, and then a run to LA area

Will try to hit ONGs again, and maybe a couple collectors in the area, but not sure what else is there to see.
Same with LA area, just know of a couple friends in the area I visited last year.

Thank you all for the help!

It’s not tropical fruit plants but I really liked the native botanical garden in Santa Barbara. Not sure what it’s like in January, but it was great in March (my family didnt appreciate it as much as I did, I’m a bit of an eco nut).

The Huntington is supposed to be stellar but a bit pricy

Specialty produce is an easy stop if flying into SD

SDBG has a great edible section

Specialty produce in San Diego is always good to stop by to see what they got.  Florida dominates our mangos in general, but don't knock off those Valencia Pride from the desert, good stuff!  Also Cherimoya is in season now, you can hit up local asian markets and find it easily.  Better to me than almost all Annona.

SDBG is worth dropping by I have not been in a while but they got a good space with a lot of trees.  Even the zoo has some neat stuff, though leaning more toward ornamental.  Have fun!
