Any tips on success? I managed to acquire a bunch of cuttings, and I want to make sure they have their best chance to root. Internet is pretty dry on info, outside of them being pickier to root than the red variety.

large branches at least 1'' or larger work best.

Cool. Do the bottoms need to be scored to expose the cambium layer?
-
Light soil mix. Keep them covered for humidity. Watch the watering. Better to be a tad dry than wet.

Someone once told me, get a couple of thick branches and stick them in the ground, they grow like weeds.
I tried with a cutting of my plant and it appeared to take but the experiment was cut short when it was mowed over :)
This fella seemed to take a rather simple approach and it appears to be working for him

This quote from IFAS paper suggests why cutting seem to take well.
Yellow and purple mombin have the ability to photosynthesize through their bark, which is why propagation by cuttings is almost universally a success. For this reason both trees are often used in the tropics as “living fences.”

Awesome. Thanks much!

I did some hard pruning recently and left 4 inch diameter wood on the ground in the shade. They began to grow new shoots and would probably root in place if I let them.

Is this the same species as choerospondia axillaris ?? I have one plant which will prolly need a little trimming next year and would like to know if I could try rooting the cuttings , tanks !!
-
We are discussing Spondias purpurea which has red and less common, a yellow form.

This is a thick branch, about 4" in diameter, stuck directly in the ground 2 months ago!

How sensitive is the hog plum to the cold?
I bought a 3 gallon from a nursery 5 months ago and it still hasn't pushed any new foliage. I am actually having some doubts on it and want to just stick it in the ground and see what happens.

I rooted mine in a pot easy, and transferred it to a 15 gallon and it fruits yearly. I don't think they do good in the ground here near the coast in San Diego, they need more heat and we just get the cool marine layer
