A dioecious species, both male and female forms usually need to be grown if fruit and seed are required[336
]. At least some dioecious Garcinia species, however, are able to produce fertile seed even in the absence of fertilization (asexual reproduction). Such seeds would be expected to be genetically identical to the parent[1798

While hauling all the trees into the greenhouse for the winter I noticed two fruitlets on one, a lemon drop / garcinia intermedia. I never noticed the flowers, all my garcinias are crammed together in a blob underneath larger trees. The tree is about 5ft tall not including the container, and not all that bushy. I expected it would need to grow a bit more before setting fruit.
I hope it reaches maturity, I have been looking forward to trying the non-mangostana garcinias.
Sorry for the bad pictures, today is a long busy day.
I ordered a plant off ebay from some far away land one time. A few weeks went by after I got it. Then an officer from the USDA showed up at my house to confiscate it!

I'm actually very interested in Pine Island. Seems like an acre there goes for about 100k. My parents think it's a good place too also. Can always build later.
I'll report back in several months...maybe something can happen! Hope to stop by the island when I'll be down.
