Hi all, I hav one Lemon Zest seedling mango tree for sale. It is in a tree pot which helps promote a deep taproot. I believe the deep taproots really help mangos grow fast in SoCal. This plant is almost 4’ tall. This is a great option for anyone who lives in a low heat part of SoCal. Seedling grow much faster than grafted trees here. And Lemon Zest is poly. So you have about a 75% chance of it being true to seed. So identical to a grafted tree. $70. Local pickup in Long Beach. Or I’m driving down to San Diego next week and might be able to deliver it.

PM if interested.

Hi all, I have some Garcinia sp. Russell’s Sweet seedlings for sale. This is an extremely rare variety of Garcinia. I believe seeds have only been brought into the United States twice. It is supposed to be one of the best tasting Garcinia varieties and a very large fruit. These are in 10” deep tree pots which promote a deep tap root. Hopefully the deep tap root will help them grow quicker.

I have two sizes available.  The larger older plants are a year and a half old and 8-10” tall. I have four that are this size. They are $120 each plus shipping. The smaller size is six months old and 6-8" tall.  Shipping to the west coast is about $9 for the first plant and $1-$2 extra per additional plants. You can mix and match with my other Garcinia plants in my other listing to save on shipping. I can ship the plants out this Monday. PM me for payment info. I take PayPal or Venmo.

Thanks, Bill

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What causes rot inside mango fruit?
« on: November 12, 2022, 09:00:30 PM »
Hi guys, a friend of mine grows Spirit of 76 here in SoCal. The last couple of years the fruit appears to ripen on the tree fine. The problem is when you cut the fruit open it has rotten around the seed. Here are some pictures. Anyone know what causes this?

Hi all, I have some Isan Indigo Sugar Apple seedlings for sale.  This is the red sugar apple that is also chewy.  This is a rare tree.  I obtained the seed directly from Green Planet Farm.  Sugar Apple's don't grow true to seed.  They usually are very similar to the mother tree but not identical.  Because of this I paid the extra to get seeds directly from Green Planet Farm.  As far as I know grafted trees of this variety aren't available.  These have been grown in deep pots to promote a deep tap root.  This will hopefully promote a faster growing tree.  These plants are almost 3 feet tall and almost 1.5 years old.  They are $100 each. Only five available.  Local pickup only.

Hi all, I have the following seedlings for sale.  They are all grown in deep pots which promote a deep tap root.  Hopefully the deep tap root will make them grow quicker.  They are for local pick up in Long Beach California or I can ship them.  Shipping should be $10-$15 for one or $5-$10 each for multiple plants.

Hi all, does anyone know much about the "Giant Atis" Atemoya?  If memory serves me right there is a picture somewhere on this forum of the fruit.  It was yellow if I remember correctly.  Does anyone have comments on growth habit,  productivity, taste or the look of the fruit?  Any help would be appreciated.  I have a grafted tree and I'm trying to decide if I should keep it or not.  I'm limited on space.

Thanks
Bill

Hi all, I grow the following bananas.  All heights listed are the height of the Pseudostem i.e. "trunk" at fruiting height. By propping I mean that certain varieties when fruiting become top heavy and will fall over. To prevent this they need to be propped up.  The true value here is that you are actually getting the variety you pay for.  Many, many bananas sold online and at nurseries are mislabeled.

2-5 gallon plants are $35 and about 3 feet tall total height excluding pot.  Paggi, Red Iholene and Dwarf Red cost $45.
15 gallon plants are $50 and 5 feet or taller, total height excluding pot.  Paggi, Red Iholene and Dwarf Red cost $60.

Currently available for sale I have Dwarf Brazilian in 3 gallon and 15 gallon and Paggi in 3 gallon.

Dwarf Brazilian - Beautiful plant, grows to 9-10' tall, nice wide dark green leaves, produces large bunches of delicious fruit. This is a Hawaiian variety. In Hawaii it is called an Apple Banana. THIS IS A MUST HAVE! If you only grow one banana, this is it! Never needs propping.

Brazilian - I am 99% positive of the correct ID on this variety. It grows to 11-14' tall and is a beast of a plant! It produces huge bunches of bananas that are slightly larger than Dwarf Brazilian and in my opinion taste a little better. The plant usually doesn't need propping.

Gold Finger - Excellent banana, grows to about 8-9', large fruit. It is a cross between Dwarf Brazilian and Gran Nain (the bananas you buy in the store i.e. Chiquita bananas). It tastes similar to Dwarf Brazilian but it produces more bananas that are slightly larger.  Most of the time it doesn't need propping.

Mysore -  Very vigorous, monster of a banana plant. The plant is beautiful with reddish purple coloring in the trunk, and the underside of the leaf. Produces huge bunches of very sweet flavorful bananas. Widely grown in India and one of the favorite dessert bananas there. Very ornamental and a good producer of quality bananas. Grows to 13-14' tall. Requires propping.

Blue Java AKA Ice Cream - This is the real Ice Cream banana. Most bananas sold as Ice Cream aren't the real thing. What makes this banana unique is it's light and fluffy texture with a slight vanilla taste. The fruit ripens to a blue, silver color with light green leaves on the plant. Grows to 12-13' tall. This is a Hawaiian variety. It requires propping. Call or text for pricing on this rare variety.

Dwarf Namwa - Produces 200-300 of the sweetest bananas you have ever tasted! Fruit flesh is dense and light orange colored. This banana is from Thailand.  Does not require propping. Grows to 7-9' tall.

Red Iholene - One of the most beautiful banana plants due to its attractive coloring of red and purple on the trunk and under sides of the leaves. The pink fleshed bananas are delicious fresh or cooked and is a favorite Hawaiian variety. Very beautiful plant but it is cold sensitive.  It grows to 12'.  This variety costs $10 more than other varieties.

Gros Michel - The original store bought banana! Up until the 1950's this was the most popular banana sold in the world. Most of the plants were killed by disease and the banana industry switched to a new variety. The Gros Michel is a little larger and MUCH better tasting than the bananas sold in stores today. Grows to 12', requires propping.

California Gold - What makes this banana special is it's cold tolerance. It is reported to be the most cold hardy fruiting banana. Excellent for colder areas where bananas usually can't grow. This banana is very good eaten fresh and amazing when cooked as a plantain.  It grows to 8' tall and does not require propping.

Dwarf Red - Very beautiful short plant that is sensitive to cold. Only Gros Michel is more cold sensitive. The plant has red coloring to Pseudostem and fruit. If you live close to the coast I highly recommend this variety. It is a beautiful plant, with beautiful fruit that tastes great and doesn't need to be propped. These are the red bananas you can buy in the store. It grows very slow. Grows to only 7-8' tall. This variety costs $10 more than other varieties.

Paggi - Not much is know about this variety. It is believed to be related to Gros Michel. Many that have tried it say it is the best tasting banana they have ever had. I believe it grows to about 12 feet. Limited availability. This variety costs $10 more than other varieties.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What kind of sugar cane is this?
« on: April 29, 2022, 12:12:05 PM »
Anyone know what kind of sugar cane this is?  The grower says it is black sugar cane.  It doesn't look black to me.  It is supposed to be a soft chewing type.  I'm going to pick some up today.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / How to prune newly grafted Annona?
« on: April 27, 2022, 03:23:03 PM »
Hi all, I have several newly grafted Annona.  They are mostly Atemoya and Cherimoya.  I have a question on how to prune them.  I want the plant to continue to grow as the main branch or trunk of the tree.  So should I remove all of the new growth on the scions except for one branch?  If so when should I do this?  For example the picture below.  Should I remove one of the main new branches?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi all, I was wondering what peoples opinions are.  Does Pink's Mammoth or Dream Atemoya taste better?  I'm specifically interested in peoples experiences with fruit grown in Southern California if possible.  But all input is appreciated.  I know both are high quality Atemoyas.  But is there a general consensus on which tastes better?

Thanks,
Bill
