I will be selling some scions of this new seedling white sapote tree that I saw today. This sale is until Sunday, ships on Monday.
I only have enough cuttings for 10 people if each person purchases 2 cuttings. This may be a onetime offering so if you like white sapote then I recommend you get this one grafted on your tree now. I need to go back and do some grafts for them since I got the large white sapote tree in exchange for me digging it up and doing some grafts on their other trees.

I went over to dig up a large white sapote tree (about 16 ft) tall and about 10 ft away they had another white sapote tree that was even larger (16 ft wide x 20 ft tall) with lots a lot of fruits on it. I asked the owner what variety it was, and she said her mother planted a seed from a very good tasting white sapote many years ago just like the tree I was there to dig up.

She told me her mother likes to grow fruit trees from seeds so most of the fruit trees there (mandarin, grapefruit, orange, avocado, loquat and a few more) are all from seeds. These trees are all in ground and fruiting.

I'll post some photos of the tree with fruits later tomorrow. Her and the mother both said this one larger tree has been fruiting for over 3 years now and always has this much fruits.

If you are interested in buying some scion wood of this seedling tree, it is called "Ady" then send me a message if you meet the requirements below.

For Sale:

For Sale:
1. Ady white sapote cutting, cost is $10 each, max order of 2 per member.
2. Shipping, small flat rate box, $11
3. Lower 48 states.
4. Payment using PayPal, Friends & Family
5. You must have purchased/sold/traded with me in the past.
6. I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone. If I don't reply to your message, then I will not be selling it to you.
7. You will need to make the payment by Sunday, don't ask me on Monday when I will be shipping out the cuttings.

I just took cuttings tonight and will be only shipping it out one-time next Monday.

Send me a message if you meet the requirements above and want to purchase a cutting or two.

I picked some larger fruits from this tree, but it is not ripe yet so I can't say what it tastes like, but the tree owners tell me it tastes very good, and they end up giving away lots of fruits to their friends and neighbors.

Most of the sale profit will go to the tree owner.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Question about Mexican Pearl Guava
« on: July 11, 2024, 11:53:27 AM »
Just wondering if anyone else has this Mexican Pearl guava from Durling nursery.

I purchased this larger tree (15 gallon) at Home Depot, I plan to use it for rootstock to graft better varieties on it. But, just in case the fruit tastes good, then I will leave a branch for it to fruit next year.

Guys, if any of you are growing the seedless guava, can you tell me if you can tell if this fruit looks similar to any other named seedless guava.

This guava is called Indonesian Seedless guava.

Also, if you are growing the Indonesian Seedless guava can you post any photos of the leaves and fruits from your tree.

I had to do some major trimming again on these two large trees, the Derek avocado tree and the HB_Library (now Nancy) avocado tree.
You can read up on them and see the photos of the fruits and trees.

https://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=53120.0

This season I noticed the following about some of the trees I help take care of, trim yearly.
- Nancy avocado tree has the most flowers of any avocado trees I have seen. So, it may be a good one if you need a cross pollinatore (type B).
- The Nancy avocado tree has the highest fruit production (holding) after the small fruitlets drop when they are the size of a quarter.
- Both trees are vigorous growers, easily grows over 10 feet each year. These trees are both over 50 years old.
- Here's my notes on the fruit production of some trees I have helped maintain:
1) Highest fruit production, Nancy
2) Hamada, high fruit production (not for sale now)
3) Derek, medium fruit production
4) Jan Boyce, many flowers, but medium to low fruit production
5) Ettinger, low fruit production.

Here's the cost for the cuttings & requirements to buy:
1. Nancy avocado cutting, $5 each
2. Derek avocado cutting, $5 each
3. Cost to ship, USPS flat rate small box, $11 (up to 6-8" long, 1/4" diameter) or medium box, $18
4. If you like the fatter (up to 1/2" diameter) or longer cuttings (12-14" long) then pay for the medium flat rate, $18 box.
5. You must be a forum member for a minimum of 1 month.
6. Lower 48 states where avocado scion wood is allowed to be sold
7. PayPal payment, Friends & Family
8. I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone.
9. Send me a message if interested, if I don't reply then I will not sell them to you.

Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone in SoCal growing Mamey??
« on: June 23, 2024, 12:07:50 PM »
I'm curious to know if anyone here in SoCal has successfully grown Pace Mamey or any other Mamey and got fruits on their tree.

If you do get fruits that actually goes until ripe, then please respond below of what variety you are growing, and maybe post a photo of your trees.

I just bought more fruits of the Pace Mamey and wondering if it is worth my time to grow out the seeds again, then graft them with a named variety in hopes of getting fruits on the tree. I already have a larger seedling greeen sapote tree (10 ft tall) that has never fruited.

I'll take a few photos of my green sapote tree again, maybe it isn't fruiting because it is shaded by my large Brewster lychee tree?

Anyone living near CSUF Arboretum may want to visit there now. Many fruit trees are fruiting and have some nice ripe ones on the tree.
If you visit, they have a new parking lot so you will be required to pay $4/hr parking fee (credit card is ok). The entrance fee is free, just any donation you want to give. They also have some fruits picked from the tree for sale at the entrance. The Arboretum closes at 4:00pm.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / WTB: Mamey scionwood cuttings
« on: June 13, 2024, 03:32:33 AM »
Hi, I'm looking for some good/fresh cuttings of PACE mamey or any other good tasting varieties to graft onto my seedling tree.

I have a green sapote and I think the graft is compatible with it.

Please send me a message if you have any cuttings for sale.

I had many seedling plants I purchased a few years back, and grafted some good varieties but they died after getting to about 4 ft tall because I neglected them. Now that I purchased some fruits now from Julian Lara's farm, I feel the need to do more grafts on my green sapote tree.

If anyone wants to try some fruits, you can buy them now from Julian, here's the link one of our members posted.

https://larafarmsmiami.com/products/mamey-sapote-10-lb-box?variant=42994699141298

The fruits are just a big (1 lb each) as the photos shows and when it ripens, I will post some photos of the cut fruits and seeds.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / CLOSED: Wedgwood Loquat
« on: June 11, 2024, 12:08:56 AM »
CLOSED:  7-2-24

=====================
Update on the Wedgwood loquat from my previous post. This is a new variety (unknown origin) so we are calling it Wedgwood-Ronnie.

The owner of the mother tree is Ron, I will get some cuttings one last time when I go there in a few weeks to dig up another tree, this time a cherimoya tree.

So, here' the offer for cuttings if you did not have chance to buy it before.

Advance Order- Pay when I have the cuttings ready to ship.

For Sale:
1. Wedgwood loquat cutting, $10 each
2. Shipping cost, $11, small flat rate box.
3. Sale is open for members who have purchased/sold/traded with me in the past.
4. Lower 48 states.
5. Payment using PayPal, Friends & Family
6. You can purchase up to 2 cuttings ($20)
7. I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone. If I don't reply to your message, then I will not be selling it to you.

Since I'm taking orders now and will put you on my Advance List, the sooner you message me the better. Once I know how many cuttings I need then I will close this post.

As I mentioned before, this Wedgwood is a white flesh, very good to excellent tasting. I consider it in the top 5 on taste.

If you don't have a good white flesh then I suggest you buy a few scions to graft now. I don't think I will be selling this one again, don't know if the owner will every sell cuttings from his tree.

I plan to give the profit to the tree owner when I see him.

This advance order will be open until I go to his place to dig out my cherimoya tree.

I'll post some photos of the loquat fruits later, for now you can see it on my other post. This one is sweeter than my Vista White, and possible sweeter than China White. Also has more juice than either one. I may have a few white flesh varieties that are better tasting than this one out of the 90.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Selma Seedling Fruit
« on: June 02, 2024, 08:04:56 PM »
Anyone who grows the Selma cherimoya tree, can you look at these photos and tell me if it looks similar to a Selma fruit.

I got these Selma seeds from the CRFG scion exchange years ago and now the tree is large enough to hold fruits. This tree is over 15 ft tall, has tons of flowers and it seems to be self-pollinating. I have 3-4 fruits on the tree and this one is the largest fruit so far.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help ID- CORG
« on: June 02, 2024, 01:24:38 AM »
Can anyone who grows these CORGs look at the fruit photos, and leaves and tell me if they recognize what variety this is?

I got a seedling tree of this variety and today, got to taste some fruits, didn't know it tasted so good.

Kevin Jones probably knows what type this is. I also took more photos of the tree if that helps.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Closed- Question for Growers
« on: May 29, 2024, 08:23:59 PM »
Has anyone grown guavas from seed?

If you did, what was your procedure to get from germinated seeds to seedlings in containers growing outside in the sunlight?

I have a large group of guava seedlings growing indoors in a container now, and just need some guidance and advise on the best way to move these into the outdoor sunlight. Eventually I will separate them when they are larger seedlings.

Anyone heard of the Tyson Seedless avocado?

I'm grafting some scion wood and wanted to see if anyone else know anything about this seedless avocado.

Fruit on Casimiroa edulis vs C. tetrameria rootstock.

For those of you that are growing the C. Tetrameria rootstock and have a combination of C. Edulis (white sapote) and C. Tetrameria (wooly leafed) varieties grafted, I have some questions for you below.

1. I have been noticing on my two rootstock trees, one is a large C. Edulis (white sapote), doesn't seem to have as many fruiting grafts as my C. Tetrameria (wooly leafed sapote) rootstock grafted tree.

Do you notice this same thing, the varieties I grafted on the C. Tetrameria seems to be fruiting much more than the same varieties I grafted on the C. Edulis with the same scion wood?

2. Is the fruit size of the varieteis you have grafted on the C. Tetrameria more larger than the same varieties grafted on the C. Edulis?

My varieties i have grafted on my C. Tetrameria rootstock tree has fruits on most of my varieties now while the same scionwood that was grafted on my other tree, the C. Edulis is growing fine but not fruiting yet.

The large fruits of the CT#7 was grafted on my C. Tetrameria rootstock. I also just got 4 huge fruits of the Selck on this rootstock and one fruit just dropped today. It is as large as the big ones I had of the CT#7.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I'll post some photos of these larger than normal (??) fruits soon, when I have time to gather the photos I took last year and this year.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I have the same Smathers scionwood from Sam grafted on both rootstock trees and they both have some small fruits now so it will be interestng to compare the size of the ripe fruits in a few months (2-3).

Jack probably has the most experience with these two rootstock and different varieties grafted on them. All of my varieties are grafted on these two trees.
