I got my dasyblasta cuttings from achetadomestica (sometime 2021) very good fruits! It's funny because mine are flowering at the same time as yours!!! Just took these pics tonight lights were out so pictures are shotty sorry lol. That interesting flavor reminds me of celery alittle bit but it doesnt ruin the fruit they are very sweet and none of that gassy taste some Suriname's have.

Took these pictures tonight

This morning!

Hahaha "I'm thinking chicken's but there not talking" i lost it reading that!!! Ya when you stick the tip of the branch in the ground you will have a 100% chance or roots iv never had it fail. I'll stick them in and go around a month or so later checking for roots before cutting the branch to multiply the plants quickly. You can do this into a pot as well to spread them around. Best to get about 3inches if possible but iv just put them under wet leaves and they rooted lol. Now you have to get to work making more than your chickens can eat so you get some.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: CO2 Generator
« on: February 19, 2024, 07:13:03 PM »
Tropicals won't need added co2, outdoor levels range from 390-400ppm average so if your close to that they will be just fine. Nothing will be airtight enough to let those levels drop to a deadly level. Running 1000+ppm will only burn your money and you won't see any effect. If your growing that cheeba it's a much different story alot of marijuana farmers will run co2 to get every last bit of growth in the short cycle of the plant increasing there yield in the end. Thoes plants grow very quickly and need the absolute perfect maximized environment if the grower wants to stand out in the game. Iv put the co2 bags in my grow rooms and raised ppm levels to around 6-800ppm and noticed no effect on tropicals they just dont grow fast enough to need it. I would do something like fruitnut and add compost to get a boost if your worried about it that would throw off about the same amount of heat as the generator would anyways.

I looked it up a few years back because I had that same voice in my head haha. Crazy how complex a plant is!!!!

7
The new growth is red to protect it from the sun kind of a sunblock. A build up of anthocyanins in the new growth to make it red dissipate as the leaf gets older and can handle full photosynthesis (turns green).

I'm going to guess the left one is the rootstock the bark on the right branch is a bit different than the base , seems like the left branch matches it perfectly. Not 100% on that but that would be where I put my money.

I would still avoid seeds from sri lanka for sure! It is sometimes fun just to see what you end up with though ,keeps you checking the pot so even if you dont get what u wanted at least you had some days of wonderment before the rage sets in! Haha

Variegation can be an inherited trait. Theres I think 3 or 4 types of variegation one being genetic another one is random and I dont remember the other 1 or 2. But variegation can 100% be passed down to seeds, I'm sure plant family or genus effects the outcome of the seed ratios (reg/var).

Sometimes when I germinate annona I'll sand the ridge going around the seed to weaken the breaking point with pretty good results I would assume it would work on other seed types as well. Gotta do it before roots so that won't help you now but might come in handy some day. I wouldnt try doing anything to that seedling incredibly easy to kill trying to crack it. I would put it in some humidity to possibly soften the shell for a week or 2 and cross my fingers. Like nick said you can use pliers to crack it and I have had that work in the past as well but iv also squashed the Sh$t out of more haha that's my last ditch effort. You can also look up scarification treatments if you like chemistry lol.

Shv if you need need space let me know lol I had one and chipmunks chewed it up on me over the summer it was almost a year old too little jerks!

13
That's really cool!!!! Iv read 2-3 years but assuming that's in perfect conditions so more like 3-4 for us I think is a good guess for flowering. Maybe the light stress triggered flowering? Or you have the anomaly of blue guac's lol. Its gotta be tiny at 7 months. Congrats!!!!!

Merry Christmas to all my plant peeps!

Looking good Bill!
I saw the mother tree at the F and S park, and boy is it gigantic.
My plant just started to flower, but no set yet.
Hoping it will be worth keeping as I like sour fruits.

It's ok if you like sour apricot flavor. It has more potential processed into preserve. It grows like a weed in Florida and has a wide bush growth habit.

If your lacking room I would skip, if you have plenty of room and want a bullet proof fruiting plant then I would recommend it.
It is a fast grower! My tree is about 5ft now but it's been close to 7 ft now on it's way to about 3ft where itll stay. Its in a 2-3 gal pot ,when it looks unhappy i root prune it and plop it back in the pot with some new soil and its happy again. When I bring it indoors I do have to prune it about once a month to keep it manageable. They must get big quick in the ground!

Me and my son will pick them early and see who can keep them in there mouth the longest lol.  It's almost painful when they arnt fully ripe. Won't be long until you can post a youtube vid of your face eating unripe ones!!!

17
Possibly even dipping in alittle sugar might help.

18
I'm the worst at describing flavors lol. It's a sour fruit with subtle flavors if you have ever had a lemon drop mangosteen it has this "green" or fresh flavor I can't really describe but I get it in these fruit as well adam prolly said it best with a warhead candy but dont expect the sweet inside lol. No seeds either so u can chomp down!!! Miracle fruit help them out alot but I might try making a jelly or something like that soon with them.

19
Ya it's a heavy producer for me. I bring my trees indoors so it grows year round, it flowers right about when the previous crop is finished. Really one of the easiest trees to care for and get to fruit consistently. Shoot me a message I'll be shipping out tues.

« on: December 07, 2023, 05:53:31 PM »
Thoes look great! Pot em up, cover the green on the small one and leave the longer one close to the soil line if not just breaking it.

24
Ya that little guy grew alot! It's always nice to hear when a cerrado species grows well lol. Thanks for the info I'll have a better start and not stunting or killing it by over feeding. Now to just wait for u to need space or the right person to read this lol.

25
O wow! I didnt even know the new growth was so awsome on these there really arnt to many pictures anywhere. Thanks for making me want it even more now hahaha. How old is your plant?
