Super glad to know much progress is occurring in the Pine Island area! Your place looks beautiful Shot!!
Found the first mango of the season "Fralan" .That tree makes more than one crop for me so not to unusual. For me those trees are to vigorous so I'm top working.People been asking me what I'm doing i have been trimming the whole grove since hurricane Ian 1000 trees.Chopping up the debris with 3000lb forestry flail. How is Pine Island recovering, in general?
Nice pic =new hope for the year : )
I did some of my vines by grafting but it did not seem to improve performance. If you can find some citron melon, Citrullus caffer they may be good rootstock experiment at the time i could not get the seed. It grows wild on the old sands of the citrus ridge if anyone has some seed i would like to try it.
I would be happy to supply you with citron seeds the next time I come accross a ripe one. There are some in a grove that I drive by every day. I'll have to check on them.
Seng, it can be grafted on most citrus variety, but you should probably try to match the final tree size (branch/trunk) of the rootstock you want to use with that of the large pomelo branches and fruits.
Although, just for fun, I did graft my large pomelo (Thong Dee - 5 lb fruits) to my Australian Finger lime tree and the graft is growing so maybe in 2 years I will have a 5 lb pomelo on my finger lime tree.
