Well for me like alot of other fruit the more I eat the more I enjoy the taste. I also have a large hedge by my place  and have raided it for a couple yrs now. I find them to be sweetest when they are soft and about to drop off bush. Shaking helps identify the ripest. But I am now at the point where I actually enjoy the spicy resinous flavor and eat a couple orange underripe ones no problem.
As for Named varieties I have only heard of Zills Black Suriname here in Swfl fla.

This was my first “Tropical Pink” Guava i grew. Was a little underripe. They do turn slightly yellow for me too.

What sort of shelf life do Rollinia Fruits have?

I found Excalibur nursery in southeast Fl had a good selection of guava varieties.

Do any of those cultivars not have that funky smell?  I want to love guavas but just can’t get past the smell.

I find them to smell sweet like strawberry smoothie especially ruby, excalibur and trop. Pink

How long did you leave them in water? Could it be root rot. 

Guavas planted in 2018 all in ground from 3 gallon.
Ruby x Supreme  Very Sweet, Excellent flavor. Smaller fruit. Tiny seeds. Produced 10 fruits


Mexican Cream. Sweet, great flavor, large apple size fruits, tiny seeds. Produced 3 fruits


Tropical White 


Tropical Pink Sweet, great taste, heavy producer, big fruit. Produced 35-40 guavas



African Gold gave one flower but set no fruit. Was the smallest tree.


Excalibur Red- Very Sweet, Excellent flavor, good producer. Smaller fruits. Produced 15 guavas



Kilo white, Very Sweet, Excellent flavor, large apple size fruits. Produced 5 guavas

I did hard prune them in fall which helped reduce the size of affected area

Looking for recommendations on how to eradicate the whiteflies off my guava trees.
