Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Concerning hand pollinating soursop
« on: November 16, 2021, 05:24:13 AM »
I have one tree that sets fruit well on its own. I have not seen  any nitidulid beetles on the tree or its flowers, I have only seen small ants and some flies on tree and flowers. Im thinking Maybe this tree sets fruit very well because it’s receptive to its own pollen.

Flower petals have fallen and pollen is dropping, stigmas are still white, Im wondering if they are still receptive in this stage.

Hi,

Who do you rate as the best nursery in South Florida? And do you know any nurseries that offer the service of planting the fruit trees for you?

Fruitscapes on Bokeelia  has provided me with more than I could ask for I highly recommend visiting them.
Also echo farms in North Fort Myers awesome nursery and farm.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Illama germination
« on: September 28, 2021, 05:50:54 AM »
I planted 12 Ilama seeds from last year and over 100 fresh seeds this year, I soaked seeds in Ga3 solution at 225ppm overnight.
Almost 2 months from planting my results have been that only 1 seed from last year has sprouted while about a third of the fresh seeds have popped. I left one tray of fresh (30) seeds untreated as my control. None of the untreated seeds have popped.

As for the tree which the seed came from, its planted on private property and the owners/ renters are impolite not wanting to help a fruit collector. I have only been able to get fruit off the ground , I am not willing to cut scions from their tree. So i will have some seedling trees in future but unfortunately  scion wood not at this point.

As for the location of the tree the friend who showed me asked to keep it secret so I will stay true to his request.

It breaks down to rock dust which contains lots of nutrients and minerals in a long lasting form. You should also research vermiculite as a soil amendment which can slow leaching of nutrients in sandy soils, retain moisture while providing aeration and regulate soil temperature.

My J31 seedling has no latex if pick tree ripe

Sprawling growth habit like CC.
Ive let the tree fruit heavy again for second year so it hasn’t got to much growth time.
Fruit has been clean without spraying.

64
Venus has dropped a few but still loaded with green fruit, the taste has been exquisite, like a late season oversized Orange sherbet.

Lara farms claims to have guava variety with thicker skin that makes it resistant to fruit fly, this may hold true for some varieties of papaya? Solo and red lady varieties have proven non resistant here.

They are very problematic for guava, surinam cherry, papaya and can even get into sapodilla, best option is bag the fruit you wish to eat while its green.

Isan Indigo seedling flowered at 6 months from seed

Couple Thai Lessard seedlings flowered at 6 months also but  I think 2 years from seed is average.

The seeds I grew from Thai variety have all produced similar tasting fruit, the main variance being size of fruits. Its a great variety with chewy flesh.

First  sops of season starting to ripen up now, trees are flowering also, maybe another crop later in the year?!
