What Type of Maprang Is This?
« on: January 26, 2023, 08:12:17 AM »
Grew this maprang from seed. Do not recall where it came from. Does anyone have an idea if this could be the sweet or the sweet and sour variety, or other? The leaves put off a citrus mango smell when crushed, similar to LZ and OS.

The most commonly known varieties are maprang wan and mayong chid. Maprang wan is  sweet and mayong chid is sweet sour. Not sure how you could tell until it fruits? Maybe Palolo can help?

Thanks FG! She's been sitting in partial sun with no special care. Don't even recall if I've fed it.

Nice tree! Slow growers in my experience, hard to tell the variety, maybe crush a leaf and smell it.

So true! I think I get 2 or 3 growth flushes per year.  Last year my in-ground seedling started 3 flower panicles. They reached 1 inch in length...and then stopped. I guess they got tired. Hoping for better luck this year.

Beautiful tree Roblack! Mine don’t look quite that happy. What potting mix are you using? What’s your water like?

Congrats on flowers FG! Exciting getting closer to fruits  =)

I'm not sure what the soil is SaltTx. Probably Miracle Grow Citrus and Cactus mixed with peat and perlite.

I use city water mostly, as it's out of the range of sprinklers, which are well fed. No real rain for over a month.
