Old Passion fruit vine (in pot) sudden decline?
« on: April 18, 2023, 11:04:08 AM »
Hey everyone Iíve been growing purple passionfruit for about 6 years in a 35 gallon pot. I know commercially they often replace the vines every 3 years in commercial production. It had been productive (2 crops per year) and then after being away for a week (I had watered it) looked like this and has not recovered. Fruit wrinkles, yellow limp leaves.  Does anyone know if this is how the vines die when they get too old?

yeah I think it's getting toward the end of its life, the average passionfruit vine only lasts for 7 years!

I have lost many of them. I think they sometimes just put it in reverse sadly, and die off quickly.

Yeah that's what passion vines do it's best to take cutting around 4-year mark just in case your plant decides to give up the ghost!

Thanks everyone for your insight. Yeah, I had actually taken a cutting a while back and itís already ina 2 gallon pot ready to go. I was actually thinking about getting rid of the old vine anyway this year but it was flowering like crazy and setting fruit this early springÖ.I guess it knew itís time was up.
