Flowers on my Langsat in Florida.
« on: April 28, 2025, 08:55:15 PM »
Hello, here is a photo of my Langsat that is currently flowering here in South East Florida.  Anyways, my questions to any of you that Langsats are the following:

Do Langsats produce fruits as single trees?  This is the only flowering Langsat I have at the moment and I doubt anyone else has any near me.

Do these flowers look like Langsat, Duku, Long Kong, Kokosan, etc?  I don’t exactly remember what type this tree is.

This is a seedling tree if that helps.  Thank you!

The only fruiting langsat I recall seeing was at the home of William F. Whitman in Bal Harbour
His was of the 'Concepcion' cultivar. Langsat flowers are usually described as perfect, so you should have fruit in your future. Congrats!

Hello Fruitguy,
Yes, I read Bill Whitman’s book and was particularly keen on reading about the very few times he mentions growing and fruiting Langsats.  Unfortunately, he never showed the flowers of his trees in his book and all of his trees were as you mentioned, named cultivars that he obtained from the Philippines and Thailand.  Thank you, I really hope these flowers set fruit.  My tree is a seedling, so I just hope these don’t turn out to be sour or bland.

This tree is almost 30 years old.  I have several others that are 16 years old but have never flowered.

TFL77, we will see if the flowers actually turn into fruits.  I’m not holding my breath.

So far, only flies seem to be interested in the Langsat flowers.  No bee activity yet.

Wow!

Nice LangsatFL- did you plant the trees 30 years ago or inherit them?

FWIW Flies can pollinate many things, although I am unsure of Langsat specifically

Please do a review of the fruits when/if you get to taste them

Hello:
Try the leaves, if it is bitter it is langsat, if it is sweet it can be duku or long kong, if your tree grew wide it is duku if it is erect it is long kong...
Good luck...

The leaves are not bitter, however, the leaves look very different than my Long Kong trees.  The leaves are much smaller on this flowering Lansium.

Here is a cluster of flowers erupting from a main scaffold branch.

That is awesome. Long wait.
The Earth laughs in flowers. And bear gifts through fruits.
No where to plant it ...but at least I got it. ;)
