25 gal Mamey with largest leaves I've seen, some up to 24 inches!  I love the look, every asks what it is, and guesses loquat!!

it handled the freeze well!!

Don't think I'll get fruits anytime soon, maybe I trade it to one of you guys way down south?? It should fruit soon, the fruit I got it out of was Pantin, and huge sized seed and fruit! Only one seed.

seems like seedlings always have larger leaves than grafted mamey sapote, or at least the ones i've seen in South FL.

Anyone else think these leaves are just normal??? Grown in 100% sun!!! in a 25 gal?? you'd think leaves might be smaller?

Thanks Oscar!! :)

I figured it was just cuz it was a seedling!  Maybe in 7 more years I'll see flower!!!

I almost want to force this one to fruit here!!!

Not sure if I can handle the anguish of a cold winter, and fruits that dropped at 10months old!!!

 :'( :'( :'( ;) :)

Nice looking tree. The leaves almost look like plumeria leaves. They are big!
Growing edible and ornamental tropicals and subtropicals and many night bloomers on 4 acres in zone 9a. Learning to live a more self sustainable lifestyle with chickens and other livestock.

Wow. That's a nice mamey tree! Yup those leaves are normal. I used to have a 3 year old seedling, but I got rid of it and replaced it with a grafted pace mamey sapote.

WOW! Such a great specimen in a pot! It sure looks very vigorous and healthy...

My opinion: I would prune the tips for a more bushy growth. Thats what I do with my Pouterias, or else they grow like pines  ;)

When I pulled it under the South East eve of my house, or awning or whatever, the tips got knocked off!! SO your pruning request was fulfilled by prophecy!

 ??? ??? ??? :P :P ;) ;D

Hope I see a flower in the next 4 years or so max! I've really babied this one!

This is an example on how I tip-prume my Pouterias (P. viridis on the picture):

I have a tree that is a few years old from seed.  A university extension officer in FL tells me it is a huge gamble.  Could take a few decades to fruit and even then it won't neccesarily be a quality fruit.  I say girdle it.

It might* take decades. But if the seedling a healthy and happy, it can take as little as 7 years to reach maturity. In that case, it is also a gamble cause you don't know if your seedling is going to be one of those trees that reach maturity sooner or later.

I've got a seedling mamey that fruited. Didn't take decades. Ok, it took one decade. Fruit is fine, ok it's not as good as Pantin, but certainly yummy.

Ahhhh, mamey shake, how I've missed you!

Thanks to Mike at Benders for the awesome mameys, so sweet no sugar or condensed milk necessary!   Now my question, will these guys grow true from seed?  Anyone have experience with this? All comments / advice / suggestions welcome.

Takes way too long from seed.
