Apple tree, ostensibly from seed, at UCLA campground

Every year I go to a work retreat with my boyfriend and his coworkers, at the UCLA lodge in Lake Arrowhead California. Behind one of the cabins (cabin 18), there's an apple tree that appears to have grown by accident, perhaps from a discarded apple core. There's no visible grafting scar and it's an odd place for an apple tree to be planted on purpose. Every year it has some fruit on it. The fruit isn't amazing but it's good, good enough to hold its own against what is normally found at a supermarket.

If anyone who lives nearby is interested in checking it out, you can park by the check-in building and walk right over to it. Photo of the fruit attached.

Some of my Winter Banana apples look like that! But then again it's a seedling you could name or just enjoy it!!

Some of my apple grafts healed so well I have trouble finding them. I wouldn't guess it's a seedling personally, looks pretty optimal.

Here's some photos of the tree. I'm not too experienced spotting grafting scars, so it could just be that I'm not seeing it. For now I'll call it "Cabin #18" as a placeholder until the variety is identified conclusively. I posted it to an apple growers Facebook group and they also seem to think it's a seedling.

You might be better to contact an Apple fanatic or Apple variety rescuer. They might narrow it down to type.  I remember a recent story about such a person travelling around re locating lost varieties.
There are many varieties of Apples, we now know the fresh eating types, but many older types are for cellar storage or cider. Dont write off the flavour too quick. I have a few seedlings here, and truth be told they usually "dont fall far from the tree" fruit wise, although they seem to change a bit in later years.
There are a lot of wild roadside apples around Canberra and other similar areas in Australia. Mostly you can guess the parent variety.
