Soil light temperature and fertilization all play a role. My lychee seedling also seem to be slow growing had them for about a year and just reached about 6inches. Make sure the soil is well draining.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Wood shaving in potting mix?
« on: July 13, 2020, 06:32:45 PM »
Just got some untreated oak wood shavings and am wondering if it is any good to put in potting mix. I know oak is high in tannins. Is there any benefit of putting it in potting mix?

Take it outside. Even in zone 6 it is warm enough in the summer to let them outside. Just make sure it doesnt get shocked, put it in partial shade.

Is it a seedling? They sometimes take a long time to fruit. I got a 3 gallon at PIN last year and it already flowered.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mamey Sapote Seed Experiment

I have eaten only store bought mameys, and thought the store fruit guality is generally very poor ,I really liked it ,a unique taste, very sweet .i'd imagine a tree ripened mamey to be heavenly ...

If they are picked before they are ripe, they will never reach full flavor.

Plantinyum, I am pretty sure the gooseberries died because I neglected them and planted it in heavy shade. Maybe I will try growing them again.

It's good for keeping the lawn service guys from weedwacking the base of the tree.

Impressive collection! I hear that you need to thin around 80% of the peaches for big fruits. As for my trees I don't bother thinning because the squirrels eat all the fruit. :-\ I have always wanted to try gooseberries, but my plant died :(

I was also looking for a nice size one and found it here, Hawaiian Tropical Plants Nursery (https://www.store.hawaiiantropicalplants.com/searchquick-submit.sc?keywords=garciniania+humilis)
Got the plant yesterday as described on the website. The plant is 38 inches tall, about 2 years old and for $47.50, it's a real nice bargain and couldn't find that anywhere else.

I have ordered from them and highly recommend them. Cheap prices and cheap shipping rates for high quality plants.

The buds should push through the tape... Sometimes I get impatient and unwrap the tape and have the graft die.

If you are in Homestead, I would recommend Robert is Here fruit stand.

I am pretty sure that although che and jujube can be grown in south FL, they are temperate fruits so they like some cold in the winter.
