I was fortunate to try this variety from a collector.
Tastes just like Kent and even looks like it, but way bigger.
I have some pictures I'll have to go back and find them.

Getting orders out this Monday!
thanks for the support! most of the seeds are germinating and as always I crack several open to make sure they are nice and purple on the inside :)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Are there dwarf loquats

Quince is used as a dwarfing rootstock for loquat.

These first two pictures are of the white sapucaia. With all phitrantha types, they are generally unstable from seed resulting in variants like these with different color fruits instead of the normal red/purple color.
This one is white scarlet. A variation of scarlet that produces white fruits. The same growth habit as regular scarlet, so very precocious, just now it has white fruits instead.

T-8 also known as Tutti Fruity. This one has a lot of promise as many of the seeds are undeveloped/aborted, leading to better flesh to seed ratio.

T-13 also known as brilliant star. This is a variant of the phitrantha cv. pink rosa. The fruit have pronounced ridges hence the name star...They are also very precocious fruiting around the same time as a scarlet would. This has phitrantha parentage, hence the quick fruiting time.

Phitrantha Rosa. Nice phitrantha with a nice red skin. Has a nice sweet taste and will bear fruit in clusters.

T-15. This one is relatively new and also is a phitrantha type. This one shows off gigantic leaves and will fruit relatively quick also. This one was released in the US rather recently and is still extremely rare.

New shipment of seeds came in and I'm excited to share with you all. Came just in time...

What is for sale

T-13 ---------->$4
T-8 --------->$8
Branca mel -------->$2
Phitrantha Rosa -------->$3.5

There's a native wild one that grows all the way up here.
It's good tasting just like any other passionfruit.
Super cool to see them up north like that

Send some cuttings! =)
I'll keep you in mind :)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Jackfruit vs Cempedak
« on: November 20, 2023, 10:35:01 AM »
My favorite so far has been the hybrid - chempejack...
Cempedak was a bit too strong for me.
Jacks all vary in taste, but a solid one that is crunchy and has low latex is always good.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / So Dry...Where's the rain?!
« on: November 16, 2023, 10:34:36 AM »
If you don't know, my area is in a huge drought...
In the last 70+ days, we've only gotten 0.42 inches of rain...
That's only 0.16 more inches than what Death Valley Got during the same time period.
The plants are so sad lol.
How is everyone else doing?
When researching land in FL, I heard that some places don't get much rain during the winter at all either.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: New USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Update?
« on: November 15, 2023, 09:06:42 AM »
We moved up to 8a now...
Of course the number doesnt really matter cause once every few years we will get super duper cold.
But it does seem more accurate given it only went one or two degrees below 10f the last 10 years.

41
I can graft you one on Montana if you want to wait...
Ready next spring.

38 or 52. What is RKN? Don’t know much about yangmei
Did you get an answer to your question, I assumed Root Knot Nematode.
Yes correct. In fact, both of the winners declined the plant.

43
Congrats to Aaron!
The number was 50.
Contest is over.

Did you get rid of a bunch of varieties? In your CRFG presentation, you said you had over 75.
I have 80...
But the first winner didn't want the plant, so I had him pick a random number so other people could still guess.

678 if I can change the guess

45
Shoulda stayed closer to my first guess of 51 haha. Out of all your jabos ryan what one stands out as special or more beautiful than the rest? (Non variegated)
Hey Bill!
For sure one of my favorites has to be malacachetta. Super beautiful growth.
There is also another one that's a new release called plinia sp. willow with super narrow and long leaves.
Also, spirito with the black flushes and pingo de mel with it's epic nature.
Now, while my jabo collection is decent sized, there are many others with double, triple, or even quadruple what I have ;D ;D ;D
It gives me motivation to stay on the grind while being happy with what I have too.
It's a delicate balance :)

46
I believe wet feet and cold bring the demise of them
Now they can take water, but prolonged times especially when cold, would wreck them.
I just recieved another 2 araza today in the mail as my og tree died for no reason it seemed.

The idea of using water to help heat the gh is a nobel idea, but in practice it doesn't make a difference unless you have a hecka ton of it. Then at that point, you're running out of space.
I got 6 barrels, but in the end, they just took up extra space.

Congrats to Aaron!

So our winner has graciously decided to give up the gift.
First person to guess the number he said between 20 and 80 will win the plant.
Guessing is still on. You can enter your new guesses here now.

I am optimistic about what can be grown in containers but I don't think jackfruit is viable.  In ground it gets huge fast, long before fruiting.  In containers it seems unhealthy and I suspect it would take forever to fruit.  Maybe try kwai muk?   It seems more compact.

And yeah starfruit is easy in container, my seedling/rootstock one fruited at a very reasonably size.
Brian, how is your in ground artocarpus doing?
You seem right on the cusp of having jackfruit fruit
