2 yangmei trees i got were ok, not vigorous but grew 5-6 inches since then.
A week ago i noticed leaf browning and drop.
Both are pretty dead looking now. Sudden death syndrome....

Tice is not the same as Shangri la. Tice leaves are gigantic, it grows like weed and no nematode damage.
I bought mine from Ft Mayers nursery. Shangri la has so much nematode damage in pot or ground so nods are so enlarged and visible from the surface.
Austurkey is worth growing. Large thick berries. Does get nematode damage.

I did. Nothing different from everbearing mulberry.

I was not successful in both.
Not sure why they are so hard even to airlayer.
Grafting seems to work with thicker cuttings. Thinner ones are all failed.

I could not yell the difference in taste of red and scarlet. Plants look different but fruit are very similar size, color and taste.
If i could grow muscadine grapes, i would prefer them since jabos seeds are larger and hard to separate from pulp.

Do Muscadines not do well in Florida? I’ve seen a few varieties on some online nurseries and have been tempted to get some, but I haven’t yet... my yard’s not well set up to handle vines.

The only jaboticaba I was really taken back with in flavor was the mozies. Iv tried quite a few different varieties and they do all have a somewhat common flavor, but the mozies tastes like a sweeter passionfruit easily my favorite jaboticaba!

That sounds intriguing! Which are the mozies?

For some reason they don't grow. Maybe too dry sand soil. Is not for them

I bought one and I'll never buy another. Flavor from my home grown pineapple that are ripened on the plant beats the pinkglow, gads even store bought are as good or better.

Much hype over nothing.

I didn't like the taste either. Plus, it is apparently GMO.

Yeah, it's got rna silencing to suppress the normal pigmentation, genes inserted from tangerine for the color, and genes inserted from transgenic tobacco inserted to confer herbicide resistance.

Now do Hawaiian Papaya, haha. I may have year old seeds finally sprouting up everywhere out of nowhere. I read they are GMO.

Only Rainbow variety of Hawaiian papaya is gmo. Others are good.

In central Florida they are already ripening. A little earlier than usual.
My fuyu never get bright color. As soon as they have yellow or orange spots, they are sweet and can be eaten

I just bought burnt lime for trees. I saw in other countries videos, they use it every spring to protect trees from pests plus sun protection.

Hello, does anyone have any updates on Siam Jumbo, how productive, how do you like it? I'm especially interested in how it does in Florida.

Thank you!

Very productive, growing fast. I love the fruit size and taste. Seems to be sensitive to nematodes. I will try to graft it on some resistant variety.

Mine went from 3gal to 15 is 3 years. Fruiting and flowering all year long.

They need tons of water to fruit.
I had a 1ft rooted cutting with fruits. It was soaked in rain water in the tray, was stinking like rot but looked good and fruited while the mother tree in a large container was over drying daily and no fruit.

I buy white sapote fruit every year from California Etsy seller.  The season starts later, in a couple of months. The  lady has different varieties but doesn't know names. I actually liked all of them but the small variety was the best.

I think I'm going to follow Xain's advice and do two white sapote trees in one hole, since I'm out of space. It will actually be 4 trees in 2 holes. The pairing I have planned are:

-Campbell & Younghan's Gold
-Denzler & Fruit Hunter

Anyone think it's a bad idea before I go ahead and plant the second trees in each hole?

Interesting... Did you pair them based on flowering time? I have the same varieties to plant in the ground

My neighbors in north Orlando have mango trees from seeds and all are fruiting and happy. I bought 3 named grafted varieties and all died in the winters with no less than 33f.
I saw a gigantic jackfruit in Oviedo, from seed grown.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Campbell White Sapote HELP?
« on: June 09, 2025, 11:44:49 AM »
How is everyone doing with growth of the Campbell?

I got a small 3 gallon from Xains 2 months ago and it has not grown at all so far...

Xain suggested to spray some Iron and give it more sun

So I sprayed and added liquid iron to the pot...

It makes sense since White Sapotes are of the citrus family and my Mayer lemon loves iron..

Fingers crossed...

Well well well, I am not sure if its just the time of the season, we also did have a lot of rain lately (I do water my pants by hand), or the additional iron and epsom salt, but all my White Sapotes are throwing new growth. The Campbell was on its last legs, but I see a small offshoot emerging.
Interesting mine started pushing a new growth after rain sas well. I thought i over water it but it looks like it loves those rains...

My butterscotch is in 15 gal full sun all day. Growing pretty fast, 2 years from 3 gal to 15. Full of flowers and holds fruit over the winter. I am kind of neglecting it often since can't decide when to plant it.

I am north from you and green sapotes looks at nurseries around here  just like yours. It's considered normal look in the spring.
Atemoya looks like needs fertilizer to me.

I ate different varieties from California without knowing names. I loved all of them even with spme bitterness of skin.  Working on multi grafted tree as well.
