Good Florida atemoyas

Hey guys I've been really into atemoyas the last couple years and I've been trialing a few to see how they work in South East Florida.
Considering we had recent influx of new varieties if anyone has some experience growing them here please share you findings

Ones I've grown and tasted
Gefner is still one of the tops for me. Fruits easily and taste great
African Pride is not great, too many seeds but fruits pretty easily
Super African Pride AKA Calastro is really good, super sweet, firm, and sets fruit without hand pollinations, The only problem is the lack of tart.
Dream fruits easily but I was only able to taste two runts last year but everyone one i know who grows this says its good.
Tropic Sun looks almost identical to a sugar apple but it tastes like a great atemoya, fruits Well, I find the season to be a little earlier than i want. A little better in flavor than Calastro due to the balance.

the Lisa atemoya I tried from fruit and spice park is up there with Rollinia in the best Annonas I have tasted

I have African Pride, Calostro, and Hawaiian Pink Mammoth from you that I hope fruit next year but one I didn’t see mentioned that is one of my favorites is Phet Pakchong. Great fruit that sets well on its own.

I've already seen first hand how hard just keeping seedling alive with all our rain here can be, haha

I have African Pride, Calostro, and Hawaiian Pink Mammoth from you that I hope fruit next year but one I didn’t see mentioned that is one of my favorites is Phet Pakchong. Great fruit that sets well on its own.

I had a good experience with Phet Pakchong, as well, but I had to remove the "orchard" and sell the house.

Sweet and a little tart with firm texture.
The fruits tend split a few hours after winter rain so no good.
Difficult to get good fruits in my yard.

TS and prolific were best in my yard last year.
Had a sharp sweetness that I liked.

Gefner was sweet but bland sweetness.
My parents liked it.

Lisa tend to split 5 hours after winter rain.
AP2 was good the year before.
Ok last year.

I have HI PM.
It’s weakest on my multi grafted tree.
A fake.

I have a real PM that turns out to be fake.
Flowers and fruits look like AP

Both fake PM came from same seller.

Do you have a picture of HI PM fruit.

I had it a few times but I didn't think it compared favorable to the others. It tasted fine but maybe not as sweet as I wanted.
I never grew it for that reason but I hear it's a pretty easy going tree and fruits well.

All my fruits have been naturally pollinated simply because I don't have time in the summer to have pollinate. (Mango picking started in May)

I was growing Hawaiian pinkmamoth but it was on pond apple stock and never did great. I grafted some on cherimoya and those were distributed around here a little hopefully someone can report in.
I'm more looking forward to the HW and PP

Can't really speak to the AP since its not the commonly grown here.
The bud wood was sold to me as arka sahan, but its doesn't seem to be that either, on another thread a few other growers chimed in and said it was probably AP.
Either way, the fruit isn't great, trying to top work it now


The other two are spot on.
Finally has a prime Dream and it certainly deserves all the hype it gets from the Florida annona growers.

Just confirming, after a few more Dreams this is certainly the best of the bunch.
Calastro is great and firm, it just lacks the balance I enjoy in most fruits.
I have a good bit coming in and will be enjoying them over the next month.

Now I'm just waiting to taste the premium AU atemoyas, Hoping to try Hilary White in a year or two

Can atemoyas or sugar apples be grown in the Orlando region (north 9b)? Any idea of their cold tolerance? What are the most cold tolerant varieties, if any? TIA

Thanks for updating us. I’m going to top-work my AP? that I got from you. Out of the 3 I have left, it’s the slowest growing. Calostro and H. Pink Mammoth are growing much faster.

My Geffner is in ground 12 years and STILL often drops immature fruit. If lucky I get a half dozen fruit a year. I wouldn't plant it again.

Perhaps I will have a candidate for this post next year.

I have a seedling AP (I think it is AP) that is really good.  More on the purely sweet side with no tart.  Perhaps next season I will share some fruit around to get the opinion of others.
