Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Peach Cobbler Mango?
« on: February 26, 2014, 12:13:11 AM »
Actually I'd forgotten that I tasted a Peach Cobbler.

Unfortunately that time period is kind of a blank for me. I suspect I gave the second Peach Cobbler and other mangos to friends who came to visit my partner, who was very ill.

Maybe others will chime in.  Alex said it's excellent.  I mostly trust him, even though he likes some off-brand mango that starts with a W and isn't very good  ;)

Oops, I probably shouldn't have posted from my favorite aunt's computer.   (mangomandan)

The first Peach Cobbler mango I tried was too tart for me.

I'm hoping the one resting on my dresser will be better.

I know it's been a while but can you give a review of this one Mangomandan?

From what I have read this is a Kent X Gary, is dull green when ripe, and has a very rich flavor. Does anyone have any more information on this mango?

But aren't coconut cream mangoes overrated?   I've had a few now.  Sure they taste like coconut, but they aren't rich like some of the other good ones.     :-\

It would be easier to be too rich or too thin.

Mango:
I did not ask for any info about the orange sherbet as they only found one for me at the last second and then we had to leave.

Correction: They gave me one and I graciously gave it to you since you came all the way from NY.

And that's why you are a hero member.

What, you don't believe in Obama-isms, spreading the wealth?  That's not your tree, you didn't make it.  It's everyone's tree.

Sorry, couldn't resist.  I HATE theives.  Sharing is one thing, stealing is another.   If I were you, I'd get me a pitbull or a couple of Rottweilers contained within a fence around your property or a CHL and just shoot their happy asses.  You have a right to use deadly force to protect what's yours.

Give 'em hell,
Mark

Hey Mark,  you might actually be thingking of Reagan-isms.  http://www.rgj.com/article/20110421/NEWS20/110421053/Fact-checker-taxes-lower-under-Obama-than-under-Reagan-Clinton-?nclick_check=1

Taxes were a lot higher back then.

Do you have a Carrie?  One of the Zill boys said the birds like Carrie best.  You could use it as a decoy to keep the birds away from the better mangoes.

haha if you're in south florida and you have fruit trees, then you have rodents no matter what u do :-). They will climb your trees to eat ur fruit. My wife does the same thing -- chucks all the scraps out in the yard. The possums seem to be the first to devour it. The coons are a bit more selective. Birds have a sixth sense to tell when mangoes are 1 day away from being ripe.

Mangomandan, do you not have rodent problems by "composting in place"?

I think most years (Florida conditions) I get fruit mostly from the 2nd or third bloom, rather than the first.

My nephew's tree produced a few berries all summer, though a pair of blue jays made sure he didn't get to taste even one.   And the tree has put out some new fruit now, like yours.

Fairchild has great things to say about Angie but also says "The tree is easy to grow if nitrogen is kept low and the tree is not over-watered or grown in soils prone to flooding or with a high watertable."

Has anyone had problems with their Angie for these reasons?    That advice seems good for most mango trees and I wonder if Angie is real vulnerable.    Young trees still need nitrogen, right?

Very nice!  and the bananas look good too.

Hi Fellow Members,  :)

About 2 years ago, I took two pups from 2 different banana's from an abandoned plot of land. This banana was growing near an orange tree and the other one was near a chestnut tree. They looked so miserable and i didn't think twice and took them home with me :)

For such a great deed and looking after them with the utmost care and dedication...I'm reaping what I sowed with a smile ;D

I got to tell you folks...This naners is mighty delicious ;D...sweet, firm and a manzano type flavor 8) I'm most happy to have brought this pup with me! now, I will have to wait for the other naner to ripen, then I will be able to access the flavor :) Can't wait ;D

The other naner flowered about two months ago...this one took a bit longer, don't know why, since both had the same treatment :o

Take care,
Steven
