Luc,

gibberellic adic is supposed to induce fruit set when sprayed on eugenia pyriformis blooms.

I'm surprised to hear yours isn't sweet.

My uvalha dolce that I have grafted from my friends tree is purportedly sweet (and my friend is not quick to dub a fruit as sweet when it's not)

My leaves also look quite a bit smaller and less lance shaped?

I wonder how many types of uvalha dolce exist??

probably over 5!   :-\ :)

there are so many eugenias, they keep describing new species every year.

can't wait for the next new trend to be set...what will be the most coveted Eugenia?
 :-X

Beto , There is a lot of variation in the E. pyriformis , in size - shape and sweetness to acid . This year I had my first ' sweet ' ( not really ) ones fruiting , the bushes are 1 meter tall and 5 years old , 1 " round very pleasant fruit , specially now that it is so hot I enjoy picking and eating them out of hand . Other pyriformis are faster growing , double the size for the same age and fuzzy fruit .
The sweet ones produced little ( 5 - 6 per bush ) fruit , I hope to see more next year , they probably need more sun...

Pitangatuba Special -  Eugenia Neonitida! Very easy to cultivate in pots.  It will fruit in 2 to 3 years! Lots of fruits!  I have a lot of 8 extra fresh seeds for sale.  Yes, you will pay for 8 seeds and you will get 10 seeds in a small box.  The seeds will be wrapped in moist paper towel.  Please send me a private email to bertonsilva@hotmail.com

The largest fruit is approximately 2 inches long.

Felipe,
No, I don't.
Pitangatuba is the only one with fruits. It started fruiting in April, and It looks like it will keep fruiting until Fall at least, incredible!

Hi Berto,
Pitangatuba sure is a gorgeous fruit tree to grow and they are pot adapted, which is definitely a plus 8) The pic you posted looks mighty delicious  :)

Berto - how long do P. Alata seeds take to germinate for you?

Tim,
I don't remember! It was long time ago! I would guess, fresh seeds will take less than 30 days do germinate.  I would file them on both sides and I would soak them overnight.

I soaked all of them for 3days and sown all at the same time.  Everything sprouted except the P. Alata.  Wish I had taken the time to file them down a bit.

Passionfruit seeds are not that hard and don't require nicking to germinate. If they've been in soil for long time and have not sprouted they probably just were not fresh seeds.

Tim,
My experience is that filing maracuja seeds expedite their germination. I learned that from some folks that know how to grow maracuja!   Those p. alata seeds were very fresh!  It is a matter of time.  I was more concerned about the yellow maracuja.  Prepare some sturdy trellis!  You are going to have vines growing all over the southern part of the US!  8) 8)

Attention pitangatuba growers!

Pitangatuba has a huge taproot system!  I repotted a 7 gallon plant into a 15 gallon pot.  The roots went through the bottom of the 7 gallon pot more or less half of a yard, approximately 45 centimeters.  Today, I looked at the plant and it did not miss a beat....flowers opening and fruits forming as if nothing ever happened!  I have been harvesting fruits from pitangatubas since april, non-stop, and it looks like it  will continue for as long as the weather is hot.

I would recommend sowing seeds in a deep pot and growing the tree/plant in the tallest pot available.  Pitangatuba are like gold fish, the bigger and deeper the pot, the bigger they will get.

Incredible!
I keep picking pitangatuba fruits. Yesterday, picked another one.
Flowers keep coming!  Pitangatuba is an excellent cost/benefit fruit to grow!

Tim,
Two week ago, I was in a remote area of Europe without email.
Please let me know how I can help!

I would say that if pitangatuba is kept in a pot getting food and water regularly you can expect fruits in 2 to 3 years max.

Felipe,
Nice photo indeed!
Few months ago, I removed two pitangatubas from the ground and planted them in large pots.  They like it much better being in pots getting food and water regulary. Both of them flowered after that.
I still have pitangatuba fruits coming and I have a batch of five (5) extra fresh seeds.
I would exchange those five (5) seeds for a couple cuttings of a nice large magenta/red dragon fruit.  I just fell in love with dragon fruits, recently!  Any takers?
