Your trees look nice.  I have a seed grown Meiwa that finaly fruited.
I got about 1 quart of fruit from it.  I hope you'll be picking in quantity soon.

Marumi kumquat makes excellent dwarfing rootstock that Meiwa should graft well to.

Put it in the ground.  Potted meiwa trees are very finicky.  If you move get a new tree.

This is a good time to transplant.  The flowers may or may not fall.  If you do a good job not breaking any root and shelter it from direct sunlight it may keep the flowers and fruit.

I don't know as I am using  a PT inter stock between Sour orange and Fukushu kumquat to join 2 incompatible root to scion varieties.

Does anyone know if trifoliata will air layer? I have air layered limes in the past with a high degree of success. I would assume that air layering would also work for trifoliata. But, I have never had the chance to try it. I have only come accross it here in Florida on a few occasions.

I have rooted cuttings of Poncirus trifoliata.  I do not airlayer anything.

The air under the roots allows evaporation of perched water table and would decrease chances of root rot.

I put in 3/4 inch rocks in bottom and covered them with a soil blocking screen. This allowed free flowing air under the roots' perched water to provide the oxygen needed.

There is a very small choice of compatible rootstocks Meiwa can grow on.  I do have 1 Meiwa I grafted onto Flying Dragon.

Volkameriana is EASY to graft,  VERY productive, and produces LARGE fruits.  Lemon taste like battery acid so quality is not important.  Sales and Profit is.

Meiwa kumquats are very hard to grow.  This is my 6+ year old seedling Meiwa.  The other 2 died back.

I have a 10 year old Meiwa that was grafted to incompatible Kuharske citrange rootstock.  It took 1.5 years to do a side by side rootstock transplant to Flying dragon.

My 2.5 year old Fukushu on Flying dragon grows much better.

My 3.5 year old Fukushu on Flying dragon.

Meiwa starts out in the morning under lights,.

Then it goes in our bathroom in a south facing window. The bathtub is full of warm water and is enclosable.

Then back under the lights.
