Noticed one of my seedling trees flower earlier in the week. It had a huge crop this year and I assumed it would flower late and/or have a slim crop after spending all of that energy. Surprise! Hope they hold on.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango ID please???
« on: July 16, 2024, 07:27:18 PM »
This mango was grown in Orlando just North of I4. It is very large mango having bumpy skin, with orange fiber-less flesh and a smooth texture. It was very sweet, like syrup having an orange citrus flavor with a hint of coconut. Each bite had different flavor combinations but all were very sweet. These ripened in June this year. We ate another one under ripe and it tasted exactly like an orange. Any guesses to what it is?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Campbell White Sapote HELP?
« on: March 25, 2024, 09:15:55 AM »
Hello, I have a grafted Campbell in a 3 gal container, purchased several months ago, looks sad and is not budding or growing. It is in the greenhouse with a Redland and Younghan's that are doing well with budding and new growth. Think I have figured out, it doesn't like the sun or temps above 75F. Fish emulsions seem to help a little. Any suggestions on perking this plant up?
Watering; frequent or let it dry out?
Soil; well drained or moisture holding?
Fertilizer; stay with fish emulsion or something with higher nitrogen?
Thanks!

Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Melon varieties for Florida
« on: December 22, 2023, 10:54:16 PM »
Hello, anyone have good success with melons in FL? I have had good production from squash (Seminole pumpkins and Sikil) but melons have been a challenge. Tried to land race melons this year with no luck. I get vines and flowers but few fruits and they don't want to fully develop. Looking for a bullet proof FL melon. Any suggestions on varieties that would thrive in 9a? Thanks!
