Loquat ripening in February ?
« on: February 05, 2023, 02:40:27 PM »
I'm in SoCal and have one seedling loquat tree that is fruiting now, and it has some ripe fruits in February. I tasted a few ripe fruits, and it was sweet.

Anyone else have early ripening loquats on their trees?

All my other loquat varieties have green fruits, but none have ripened this early.

Yehuda are ripening, and have been (here and there) for the last 1.5 months. Still couple dozen fruit on the tree,

Florida must be 2-3 months earlier than CA.

TnTrobbie, what is the Turkey loquat? I have never heard of that variety. Do you know if the flesh is orange or white? How is the taste?

That sounds great! Is it the first year fruiting? I hope it can maintain the earliness in the future.

A few Gold Nugget have ripened here. Most were set back by the Dec freeze.

'Christmas' almost orange for me now, though I guess they are late if they are supposed to be ready for Christmas

Brian, my Christmas loquat always seems to get ripe with the others in April-June here. My KT9-Lindsey sometimes has two ripening times, once in May, and second in November.

I got it from TopTropicals (I know, they have a little reputation  ::) ;D).
All I can do off of is their description.

'Loquat, Japanese Plum. New grafted cultivar from Mediterranean. Very hardy fruit tree, easy to grow, drought tolerant, fast growing. Fruit are very large size, yellow orange skin with yellow flesh, very sweet with no acid taste.'

This would be the 2nd season I've got fruit from my small tree.

TnTrobbie, which one of the two loquats did you like? I have Yehuda.
