Try Valentine pomelo and Tahitian

4
Probably just a regular Morton citrange, perhaps the Florida budwood program has it under that name

I used to have Citrangeremo but it died to a low of 12F a few years ago. Granted it was very recently grafted and should've been protected.

I also received mine from Madison 2 days ago. It's grafted on US 942. I'm hesitant to keep it outdoors in zone 8b/9a, I'm not sure how much cold they can take as i've seen many numbers online.

The lowest we had during the freeze this January was 22.

I can attest for its hardness. No damage at 12F and has excellent dormancy. Grafted  on 942

@Lauta do you know if herbalistics is on FB or has any other kind of web presence beside Insta?

Beautiful video. But with the pedigree of citruses, they lied a little and simplified it. And it seems that now Citrus indica is no longer considered the ancestor of all modern citruses, but has a hybrid origin.

Have we identified *any* extant true species within citrus?
citrus mangshanensis

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: AI / Chat GPT Plant Descriptions

Totally get where you're coming from. I tried looking up information about a fig variety recently and had to dig through three fluffy paragraphs to figure out basic things like fruit size or ripening time. It's frustrating, especially for people who are shopping based on solid facts, not poetic marketing. I’ve even seen AI being used in seed catalogs now, it’s all “delight your senses” instead of just telling me if it grows in my zone or not.

I’ve started running some of that overblown stuff through a humanizer tool to make it more readable and to get back to a more natural tone. Works better than skimming through a wall of AI-speak.

Title. Missed out on a sale last year when a nursery had them in stock.

I’ll have to try Miho out then. How do you rate Miho vs. Shiranui taste wise?

15
Out of all of them, which looked the best? I’ve heard Miho is hardier than typical citrus,

16
How does MIC taste? I got one few days ago. For its parentage its complex and was going to use it in crosses with Hirado buntan, since I've heard its the most cold tolerant pomelo

17
I say the same for 1516 seedling. African pomelo x tri, it has about 3 leaves like this:

For the varieties that I wasn't familiar with, a quick search using https://idtools.org/citrus_id/index.cfm can provide information for most of these.

it really depends on the seller with etsy. i bought a callie kumquat (nagami x meiwa) from there and it is legit. plant came in with blooms already.

the one that you linked brian i believe is legit. the 2nd to last photo shows the fruit cut in half and there appears to be no seeds, doesn’t look like an internet stock image.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Citrangequat 19-15-7
« on: January 21, 2025, 05:20:17 PM »
Augusta citrangequat and 19-15-7 are different. Aug, citrangequat is from Winter Haven Florida, while 19-15-7 is from Yuma Arizona.

19-15-7 came out around the 50's, I assume way before Augusta citrangequat.

no, swingle trifoliate orange is just the variety name, just like rubidoux trifoliate. still trifoliate orange.

I am watching it now. I’m all for documentaries or films that highlight unique fruits and plants. There's something fascinating about discovering rare varieties, especially when they dive into their origins. If you're into this type of content, you might also find some similar nature documentaries on 123moviesfree.net. They usually have a nice collection of these types of films that really dive into the details.
