Starburst and Cocktail seedlings

Cocktail and Starburst seedlings. Both exhibit excellent vigor.

Starburst seedlings exhibit noticeable variation in foliage.

Is Starburst an earliest pummelo available?
Best regards,

Harvest in Florida begins in late Autumn which is quite early. I'm not familiar enough with Pomelos to state that Starburst is the very earliest to ripen. These seedlings are simply a few I planted from last year 's fruits purchased locally.

I have a Banpeiyu pomelo that fruited for the first time to full ripeness this year. It was strange that it ripened in May 2024, the UCR database says it should be ripening from October - November here in CA.

Maybe the next crop of fruits will be ripe by November this year. My fruit did not get as large as it is supposed to (10lbs), it only got to 5lbs. None of my other pomelos get ripe this late.

Thank you, in France most  pomelos are from China , they appear on the market in early November.
The white flesh variety is labeled Honey, but sometime there are also deep red fruits.
Rarely in white flesh fruits are large seeds, its seedlings  are very sensitive to the frost.
In November  2022 I found a dozen of seeds in the red one and got several seedlings with varying leave shape pattern.

Most of them died after forced  artificial freezing at 8°C for 3 hours but one was not damaged at all.

Probably a hybrid with some hardy rootstock
Best regards,

How did it taste Kaz?  I picked my lone BPY fruit way too early in December.  I'll wait longer this year.

Steve, my first fruits were not good, no taste. It ripened on the tree in May which is way off the month it is supposed to be ripe here (Nov-Jan) so I'm hoping the second set of green fruits on my tree will ripen at the end of the year. If they still don't have any flavor then it will be good for rootstock, but I have other pomelos that are much sweeter than this one so far. I will let you know by Dec-Jan for the second round.

I also have a Hawaiian pomelo that is supposed to get to 16 lbs so if it gets larger than the Banpeiyu then I will remove the Banpeiyu from my trees. I like Thong Dee much better than Banpeiyu. Also have 3 other pomelos that tastes much better.

I also sowed seeds of a (white) Honey Pomelo some time ago and last winter, I left the seedlings outside. All but one died. The surviving seedling however, almost died of neglect when I failed to water it. It has recovered and I am curious to find out what will be of it.

I grafted Kao Nun and Hawaiian Pink Shaddock.  Let's see how they turn out in a few years.
