Which Avocado variety should I get?
« on: March 03, 2022, 12:24:58 AM »
Looking for an Avocado tree to add to my backyard as my final fruit tree for now. Generally prefer something that tastes really good and is large.

Also, someone told me about their experience with a large Avocado variety that they ate at Hawaii which they said tasted like creamy cashews! If anyone knows anything about this variety and if it's grown in Florida, I would love to know! Thanks.  :D

Lara Farms might be the place to go.  Julian Lara has other exclusive varieties as well.

I have not but I do know about Laura farms! I already bought my two trees from him. I'm not really sure about how a garlic butter avocado would taste, but I can imagine it's very delicious too. Right now I'm very interested in whatever this mysterious cashew tasting giant Avocado from hawaii might be though!

Don't get too obsessed!  One person's "creamy cashew" is another's person's "ehh."  I'd focus on what you can actually get your hands on locally.  From personal experience Simmonds, Lula, and Choquette are all good.  Dupuis, Catalina, and Oro Negro have their fans.  Wurtz is another decent one--small but productive tree.  Recently I planted Monroe and Day, but I think I'd like to plant that Lolo, too.

You really should talk to Julian Lara.  That's another variety he sells.  I'm sure he'd be able to help you choose the best variety for your specs.
