Beautiful 4.88 pound Painter Rollinia
« on: February 28, 2022, 09:28:28 PM »
Got the pleasure of trying this massive Rollinia yesterday courtesy of John Painter! John mentioned it was the largest he has gotten from his tree to date. It weighed in at 4.88 pounds.

This fruit had wonderful lemon meringue pie flavor with a nice sweetness to balance the acidity. Definitely at the top with my favorite annonas.

Thank you for sharing.
Allow yourself to know, if you wish, that this is a multi dimensional communication.
See what happens.

That is a really nice looking fruit, I can't wait to try one of these

Wait, does this mean rollinia is in season in FL now?

John Painter's rollinia is the best! Grafted a scion of it on mountain soursop. According to Har, it creates a more cold-hardy rollinia. The graft is pushing a leaf so cool!

Indeed it is! Thanks for the picture, glad to know that Mountain Soursop is a compatible rootstock. Think that might have some more flood tolerance as well.

Nice fruit! Where and under what conditions (sun, semi/full-shade, soil, ph, drainage) was it grown? I am asking because I tried to grow Rollinia multiple times and always failed. The tree usually hung on for life 1-2 years before it died. Successful with most other tropical fruit trees but Rollinia eludes me.

This Rollina selection is from Dr. Richard Campbell back in the early 2000s from Brazil. It is a large specimen over 30 foot tall and wide,so it fruits when it wants Winter or Summer .Trees don't like cold dry winds ,this one more sensitive than the one from Fruit and Spice Park which takes cold better, holds more leaves.New leaves pushing now and fruit still up their.
