The squirrels know that Lula is tasty. Now that would be interesting. Reed is a favorite of our avocado man in San Diego County, Brad. Reed was grown commercially in south Miami-Dade at one point but was abandoned by growers due to low production according to PIN.
Anybody that is looking for Reed avocado, Julian just activated that option on his site. I ordered a mix box so I hopefully I get at least one Reed in there.
Thank you everyone! Grabbing a few scions from Spaugh and will give Sharwii a try here. Grafting onto medium sized in-ground ON tree.Bless you, Rob.
John -Now don't be offended. Did you get your tree from Dr. Campbell?
Are you impuning that my Cecilove is in question due to it's health?
Shape would be the better determiner, IMO; color of new leaves seems to vary based on health/nutrition of the tree (rootstock may also play a role). I had the same variety grafted to an in-ground and one in a pot; the potted flushed a brilliant scarlet color while the other was nothing special. The potted tree died later that season....Besides color, the size of the new leaves was much smaller.
HiYou're the man!
Last year I sent Julian 2 avocados cultivars
Pico Godreaux and a morado. Soon he will offer it
Planted this Cecilove on September 13th. It's first leaf flush since getting planted. 12 new flushes, 5 more buds are expanding.
Hopefully the impending cold air doesn't hurt these tender leaves.
Coconut Cream, excellent information which I imagine will be beneficial for someone searching out an avocado tree!If I'm not mistaken, the original Hass avocado has a small seed. My dad had a tree in the late 70's/early 80's, and that was definitely the case. Isn't it Lamb Hass and other variants that have the larger seeds?
I'm curious about the seed size -- I've had store-bought Hass avocados with small seeds and others with frustratingly large seeds. Could there be something influencing the seed size beyond genetics? Is it possible not all Ronnie avocados will have a large seed?
Nice reviews, thank you very muchYeah, you did a great job!
Could y'all with iguana infestations maybe take a note from NYC which is aiming to control their rat population there by feeding them contraceptives?I hope they can try this with iguanas, but reptiles might be different than mammals.
In the Florida instance setting out fruit, etc. laced with contraceptives for the iguanas might work, don't
you think?
Just pondering......

It would have to be in the 30's for that to happen, and I think those days (nights) are gone forever. We'll have nights in the 40's next week in northeastern coastal Broward where I live. Nevertheless, I'll stay alert for falling iguanas with a machete in hand!I'm focusing on the squirrels after getting the iguanas under control. I've caught 3 in three days, using peanuts and hazelnuts as bait. Since my mango trees should have their first crop this summer, I want to get their numbers down substantially before summer. 50% of the mangos on my neighbor's large tree get ruined by them.
John,
There's a cold snap coming to Florida. So, won't a lot of the iguanas fall out of the trees in torpor diring that time?

Let me predict that Nishikawa beats out Choquette. So would you say Nishikawa comes in first?
I still have to review Choquette to round out this variety pack, but Nishikawa is in the lead by some distance. Keep in mind that Oro Negro wasn't included. I'll do a final ranking based purely on flavor and another list that takes into account some of the other factors.
