Best Potting Soil
murahilin:
What is the best potting soil for a key lime tree? The tree will be kept in a pot with no plans on planting in the ground. It is currently in a 5" by 5" by 12" tree pot.
Thanks!

I and many others use the 5-1-1 medium for citrus. 5-1-1 is 5 parts pine bark fines (pieces at 1\4") plus 1 part peat moss, and 1 part perlite. If you do not want to cut your pieces into the proper size, you can go to any larger pet supply store and purchase a bag of Repti Bark. Also add dolomite as the calcium source. Soak the wood chips over night before blending the potting mixture. This formula gives equal parts of solid particles, air, and water when the medium is completely saturated. This mixture also eliminates the perched water table in the container..

Thanks. How long does this mixture usually last before needing to repot?
Millet:
5-1-1 normally last 2 plus years. In your area if you put the tree outside, it surly will become infected by HLB which is an incurable diseases
kulasa:
I second the 5-1-1 using reptibark.
